III. CONSTRUCTION METHODS AND PROCEDURES

TEMPORARY FACILITIES
• Prior provision of temporary facility, location must at least 20 M. away from transmission lines and at 6
M. away from cliffs
• Prior tapping into a power supply line, check electrical connections and layouts to avoid possible short
circuit connections
• Wire size or wire diameters must be checked to avoid possible overload of the electrical system.
PROJECT BILLBOARD / SIGNBOARD
• Billboards must be of standard size and formats as specified on the provided plan
• Billboards / Signboards shall be positioned visible to passing pedestrians and vehicles.
OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND HEALTH PROGRAM
• The Site Engineer / Foreman shall conduct daily tool box meeting concerning safety and health issues
prior start of work
• Basic PPE’s such as; Hard Hat, Safety Vest, Safety Shoes, and Working Gloves must be worn at all times
on site
• Provision of Fist Aid Kit and medicines will be provided on the work area.
CLEARING AND GRUBBING
• Boundary of the project shall be determined prior beginning of clearing and grubbing
• All surface objects and all trees, stumps, roots and other protruding obstruction, not intended to remain
shall be cleared
• In areas outside of the grading limits of cuts and embankments, stumps and non-perishable solid objects
shall be cut-off not more than 150mm above the ground line.
STRUCTURE EXCAVATION
• Prior beginning of excavation, contractor shall check for possible embedded utilities coordinating with
LGU
• Prior structure excavation, provision of batter boards is required with height of at least 60 cm from NGL
provided leveled and shall be at right angle on every corner
• Foundation depth and wall footing depths / dimension shall be in conformity to the provided plans.
EMBANKMENT – FROM BORROW
• Embankment materials shall be provided as approved by the Project Engineer and must be accepted in
accordance with the contract and which can be compacted in a manner approved in this item
• Lines and grades must be determined prior embankment
• Embankment and backfills must be free from deleterious matters
• Embankment will be compacted in satisfy density requirement.
SITE DEVELOPMENT
• Boundary of the project or affected area(s) must be predetermined to avoid encroachment prior
clearing
• Lines and grades as provided by the plans must be observed during the excavation and embankment
period
• Deleterious materials shall be removed from the area, all surface objects and all trees, stump, roots, and
other protruding obstructions, not intended to remain shall be cleared
• In areas outside of the grading limits of cuts and embankments, stumps and non-perishable solid objects
shall be cut-off not more than 150mm above the ground line.
STRUCTURAL CONCRETE
• This item shall be in conformity to specifications stipulated on the DPWH Standard Specifications for
Highways, Bridges and Airports. Concrete class shall conform specifications provided on the plan
• Prior casting of concrete, verify dimensions (cross section and height) of the member intended to be
casted
• Check placement, spacing & bar diameter of the reinforcements prior concrete casting, quantity
intended for a structural member shall be in conformity to specifications provided in the plan
• Concrete shall be placed as near as possible to its final position to prevent segregation, concrete shall
not be dropped more than 1.5 M
• Vibration shall be sufficient duration to provided thorough compaction of cement and shall be done 15
to 16 second interval on a structural member, vibration more than specified is not advisable
• Concrete should be cured immediately after final placement, specifically during the first 7-days
• Removal of Forms and Falseworks shall commence when concrete has attained the desired compressive
strength
• Minimum time for curing and removal shall be as follows; provided no load will be applied on the
structural member
Before reaching 80% of its desired strength.

REINFORCING STEEL (DEFORMED)
• Grade of reinforcing steel shall be conformity to the specifications stipulated on the plan
• Reinforcement shall be free from dirt, detrimental rust, loose scale and other foreign materials
• Structural member’s reinforcement shall be placed and spaced in accordance to plans and specifications
• Splicing shall be in conformity plan, lap splice will be placed as to satisfy sufficient minimum clear
distance of 1/3 the maximum size of coarse aggregates between the splice and nearest adjacent bars
• Use gauge 16 tie wires in typing reinforcements.

CONSTRUCTION METHODS

FORMS AND FALSEWORKS


• Prior installation of shuttering / formworks, verify dimension of the structural members
• Forms shall be firmly framed as to avoid swelling. Shuttering shall be sealed on the adjoining sides as to
avoid displacement of mortar during casting of structural concrete
• Prior casting of concrete, dimensions shall be verified and approved by the Project Engineer.
SOIL POISONING
• Soil poisoning shall commence when lines and grades, foundation trenches are provided
• Placement of chemical shall be as per approved method provided by the manufacturer.
MASONRY WORKS - (100mm CHB)
• Prior laying of masonry units, provide leveled nylon strings per layer, placement shall be plumb to the
footing
• Provide stiff channel bars of nylon strings placed vertically to serve as guide to masonry unit’s
plumbness
• Mortar mixture shall be in conformity to DPWH’s Standard Specification for Highways, Bridges and
Airports of 2013.
MASONRY WORKS - (150mm CHB)
• Prior laying of masonry units, provide leveled nylon strings per layer, placement shall be plumb to the
footing
• Provide stiff channel bars of nylon strings placed vertically to serve as guide to masonry unit’s
plumbness
• Mortar mixture shall be in conformity to DPWH’s Standard Specification for Highways, Bridges and
Airports of 2013.
CEMENT FLOOR FINISH
• This item shall be in conformity to specification stipulated on the DPWH’s Standard Specification for
Highways, Bridges and Airports. Concrete class shall conform specifications provided on the plan
• Prior casting of concrete, verify dimensions (cross-section & height) of the member intended to be
casted
• Check placement, spacing & bar diameter of the reinforcements prior concrete casting, quantity
intended for a structural member shall be in conformity to specifications provided on the plan
• Concrete shall be placed as near as possible to its final position to prevent segregation, concrete shall

DOORS – FLUSH
• Prior installation, verify plumbness of the wall against the door frames provide corrections if
discrepancy occurs
• Provide anchorage between the door frames and the walls intended to be attached with, provide
mortar on the gap
• Mortar mixture shall be in conformity to DPWH’s Standard Specification for Highways, Bridges and
Airports of 2013
• Install knobs and locksets as provided by the plan and as specified by the Project Engineer.
DOORS – WOOD PANEL
• Prior installation, verify plumbness of the wall against the door frames provide corrections if
discrepancy occurs
• Provide anchorage between the door frames and the walls intended to be attached with, provide
mortar on the gap
• Mortar mixture shall be in conformity to DPWH’s Standard Specification for Highways, Bridges and
Airports of 2013
• Install knobs and locksets as provided by the plan and as specified by the Project Engineer.
RESIDENTIAL CASEMENT
• Prior installation, verify plumbness of the wall against the casements and check opening and provide
correctness if discrepancy occurs
• Provide anchorage between the door casements and the walls intended to be attached with, provide
mortar on the gap
• Mortar mixture shall be in conformity to DPWH’s Standard Specification for Highways, Bridges and
Airports of 2013
• Provide strips of masking tape on the casement glass to caution pedestrian and workers.
JALOUSIE WINDOWS
• Prior installation, verify plumbness of the wall against the casements and check opening and provide
correctness if discrepancy occurs
• Provide anchorage between the door casements and the walls intended to be attached with, provide
mortar on the gap
• Mortar mixture shall be in conformity to DPWH’s Standard Specification for Highways, Bridges and
Airports of 2013.
40mm∅ STAINLESS STEEL GRAB BAR
• Prior provision of stainless steel grab bar, glazed tile must be installed
• Verify plumbness of the area designated for installation
• Install the grab bar & provide escutcheon on the connection.
WINDOW ACCESORY (WINDOW GRILLS)
• Window grills shall be provided after casements has been provided
• Installation shall commence upon approval of the Project Engineer.
STRUCTURAL STEEL (TRUSS)
• Fabricated steel truss in accordance to plans and specifications, type and classification of steel shall be
as approved by the Project Engineer
• Truss shall be welded / bonded together using methods as specified on the plan or as approved by
Project Engineer.
STRUCTURAL STEEL (PURLINS)
• Prior installation of purlins, provide lifelines anchored on stiff members of the structure intended for
worker’s safety
• Purlins shall be welded / bonded together using methods as specified on the plan or as approved by the
Project Engineer

CONSTRUCTION METHODS

METAL STRUCTURE ACCESSORIES (BOLTS, SOGRODS, TURNBUCKLE, CROSSBRACING, STEEL PLATES)


• Bolts shall be placed on the column and casted simultaneous with the casting of the compressive member
• Fabricated steel truss in accordance to plans and specifications, type and classification of steel shall be as
approved by the Project Engineer
• Truss shall be welded / bonded together using methods as specified on the plan or as approved by the
Project Engineer
• Allow concrete members to cure prior installation of the truss members, provide base plate as anchorage
between the truss and column
• Provide hardware materials after placement of the truss, install and adjust to satisfy plans and site
conditions.
METAL RAILING
• Materials intended to be used shall be as specified on the plans
• Materials shall be free defects, approved by the Project Engineer.
CORRUGATED METAL ROOFING
• Placement shall be as approved by the Project Engineer
• Provide lifelines on the roofing section to ensure safety of the workers
• Layout the placement of the J-bolt, verify alignment near enough to the lip of the purlins
• Provide a guide chord to establish the desired alignment, drill holes on metal roofing and install the
hardware.
FABRICATED METAL ROOFING ACCESORY – RIDGE/HIP ROLLS
• Ridge roll and Hip roll will be provided upon metal roofing complete installation
• Placement shall be done in an acceptable manner as to provide a presentable finish upon completion.
FABRICATED METAL ROOFING ACCESORY – FLASHINGS
• Flashings will be provided upon metal roofing complete installation
• Placement shall be done in an acceptable manner as to provide a presentable finish upon completion.
SEWER LINE WORKS
• Materials intended to be used shall be as specified on the plans and must be acceptable to prevailing local
and national codes
• Provide layout of the sewer lines, upon installation provide slope as specified on the plan if not mentions on
the plan provide a 2% slope for soil branch and other horizontal pipes.
• Rough-ins shall be positioned satisfying the layout of the approved plans, method of placement of plumbing
fixtures shall be as per approved and acceptable method, or through installations recommended by the
manufacturer.
COLD WATER LINES
• Materials intended to be used shall be as specified on the plans and must be acceptable to prevailing local
and national codes
• Rough-ins shall be positioned satisfying the layout of the approved plans, method of placement of plumbing
fixtures shall be as per approved and acceptable method, or through installations recommended by the
manufacturer.
CARPENTRY AND JOINERY WORKS – CEILING
• Provide leveled horizontal frames on elevations specified as ceiling level, frames shall be provided on the
perimeter of the inner section of the school building
• Metal furring shall be placed specified on the plan provided with suspension hangers and ceiling
consumables
•Prior installation of ficemboard, verify levelness of the ceiling frames, using cycone levels or other means to
verify frame level.
GLAZED TILES AND TRIMS
• Prior installation or laying of tiles and trims, check levelness of the floor subject for tile laying
• Using approved tile adhesive install the tiles on a presentable manner free from defect and damage
UNGLAZED TILES
• Prior installation or laying of tiles and trims, check levelness of the floor subject for tile laying
• Using approved tile adhesive install the tiles on a presentable manner free from defect and damage
PAINTING WORKS – CONCRETE SURFACES
• Prior painting, ensure concrete satisfies curing period. If required apply concrete neutralizer on the surface
subject for painting
• Repair portions with pinholes and defects that may affect aesthetics of the wall.
PAINTING WORKS – WOODEN SURFACES
• Prior painting, ensure concrete satisfies curing period. If required apply concrete neutralizer on the surface
subject for painting
• Repair portions with pinholes and defect that may affect aesthetics of the wall
• Apply paint on the surface using manufacturer approved method and allow paint to cure.
PAINTING WORKS – STEEL SURFACES
• Smoothen wood surfaces using sand paper or other means to provide smooth finish / surface prior painting
application
• Apply paint approved or specified by the Project Engineer
• Apply paint on the surface through manufacturer approved method and allow paint to cure.
