Strategies for Differentiated Instruction

i. For a gifted student, I will allow the student to pick the material
of his or her choice that he or she would like to test. I also
would allow the student to be the facilitator of the discussion
for today, this will not only benefit him or her but it will also
benefit the other students as well. This will ensure that the
student is not bored with experiment and allow them to think
further into the experiment.

ii. For an exceptional child, who has cerebral palsy and is confined
to a wheelchair, I would allow the student to drop the egg from
his or her chair with their arm raised as high as they could go.
Or if they would like they could pick a friend to drop it for
them. This way they feel included and can make decisions on
their behalf. I want the child to feel comfortable in my
classroom and feel like they have enough support to be able to
thrive in my classroom. If this child as any questions at all, I
will be able to assist immediately.
V. ENGAGEMENT

● “Why are we looking at an egg?”

● “ Why are we looking at different materials?
● The teacher will activate prior knowledge by asking, “ What do we
know about an egg?”
● “ What type of materials will protect the egg?”
● “ What type of materials will harm the egg?”
● “ How can we drop Humpty Dumpty without cracking him?”
● The students will all have a chance to answer and elaborate
through discussion
VI. EXPLORATION
● Students will first observe the materials that they are given
● Students take a look at the hard boiled egg
● Students will the students will then take a look at, feel, and
describe the different materials
VII. EXPLANATION
● The students will work in groups and explain the result with the
class
● The students will talk about their predictions
● The students will tell us why they chose that type of material to
help protect their egg
● The student will then put their egg in there material and drop it
from the length of their arm the whole way up
● The students will talk about they're finding
● the students will then talk about why they think their object was a
success or needed to be worked on
● The student can reflect on how they could change the outcome of
this experiment
VIII. ELABORATION
● The teacher will explain why this change took place.
● The teacher will elaborate by referring to the fact that if you're
protecting something you want the most cushion as possible
● The teacher will elaborate by stating that “giving an example: if
you were to protect a baby you would use a lot of cushion or
clothing or something to barricade the baby”.
● The teacher will explain that whenever we drop the egg if it does
not have enough cushion on it or if it's on a hard surface it will
then crack.
IX. EVALUATION
● Students will oral and collaboratively talk about their results with
their classmates
● Students will identify why the results ended that way
X. E-LEARNING
● I will use a website to explain what happens to an egg. This website
relates to the nursery rhyme Humpty Dumpty because in all reality
Humpty Dumpty is an egg which could be fertilized into a chicken. And
if the egg is cracked the fetus of the chicken dies. So it is our job to
protect that fetus which will then turn into a fertilized chicken that will
hatch one day.
