wee Fold line t= thickness of gusset plate Fig. C-F2,19. Brace-to-gusset plate requirement for buckling out-of-plane bracing system. Seismic Provisions for Structural Steel Buildings, July 12, 2016 Anaenican INstiTUTE oF Steet CONSTRUCTION 3.21 How do I use the IBC, SEI/ASCE 7, AISC 341, and AISC 360 together? The IBC incorporates most structural design requirements through adoption by reference of SEVASCE 7, which sets the minimum required design loads, for seismic as well as other load conditions; the required combinations of the various loading conditions; and, for seismic loading, the maximum permitted interstory drift. In order to determine the required design seismic forces in SEVASCE 7, it is necessary to select a specific seismic load resisting system and its associated values of R, C, and ©, Once a seismic Toad resisting system is selected, it is necessary to detail the structure in aecordance with the requirements adopted by ASCE 7 for the specific system. For seismic load resist- ing systems of structural steel, and those of composite stee! and concrete construction, SEVASCE 7 generally adopts the requirements of AISC 341. The only exceptions to this are: + Structures assigned to Seismic Design Category A: and + R=3 system (that is, a “structural steel system not specifically detailed for seismic resistance) in Seismic Design Category B and C. For all other structures, the acceptable configurations, width- ickness ratios, lateral bracing criteria and connection design requirements are contained in AISC 341. AISC 341 defers to the requirements of AISC 360 for many of these requirements and for procedures used to determine the ca- pacity of most structural steel and composite elements.
