Data Collection of TB Cases (diagnosed & treated)

RSUD Wamena – Jayawijaya District
February 22-24, 2018

A. Background
Tuberculosis (TB) continues to be an important public health problem worldwide. In 2013, 9
million people developed TB and 1.5 million people died from the disease. An estimated three
million people with TB in 2012, one third of the total cases, were not reported to a national
surveillance system. According to the latest global TB Report by the World Health
Organization (WHO) as many as 690,000 TB cases in Indonesia may not be detected or
reported.
Identifying factors that are associated with under reporting will allow us to target areas in need
of better TB diagnosing and reporting, to in turn improve disease control. Often, TB cases are
missed when they are not reported to National TB Programs (NTP) which can occur if they
are never diagnosed with TB, are not initiated treatment after diagnosis, are not recorded
while on treatment or are not reported to the national surveillance system. Missed cases can
result in continued TB transmission in the community and hinder a program’s ability to
effectively monitor patient care and assess progress towards set TB targets.
The objective of the Data Collection of TB cases is to describe the extent of unreported TB
cases from RSUD Wamena in Jayawijaya District and to identify the factors associated with
unreported cases.

B. Objective:
a) To collect data regarding the number of TB cases diagnosed and treated in RSUD
