Observation Task 4: Planning and preparation for learning

Focus: The importance of planning and preparation
Objective: The objective of this task is for student teachers to begin to understand
the relevance of planning and preparation as well as gain insight into how teachers do
this.
Procedure:
1. Before the observation discuss the task with the teacher and arrange a good
time to observe her teaching. (this could be for 15 min)
2. During the observation, record and make notes on what the teacher and the learners are doing.
-The teacher has chosen a number song, and they sang along.
-The teacher brought cards with numbers on it then stick it with the same number
on the board. (5 min)
3. Find out how the teacher planned and prepared for the section you observed.
-She planned it because the students still struggle with understanding the
numbers, so she planed it with the other KG teacher, and do the activity in her way
with what works with her students.
4. After the observation – Arrange a time to discuss the following points with the
teacher:
• How do you plan? Planning activity that supports their understanding in
another word depending on student’s level, and the KG teachers do a meeting,
and they all agree on what they will do, next day depending on what fits the
class.

• Do you plan weekly, daily, as part of a team or individually? Once a week as a part of a team
they agree on the plan. It also, about emailing other teachers if the plan worked.

• Do you do anything you haven’t planned to do? Yes, that can happen if the plan
didn’t go as planned, or if the students weren’t in the mood or tired she make
it easier and she comes up with an in the moment planning.

• What is important to you when planning a lesson?

5. Do you plan to do the same thing with all the children in the classroom?
Why/Why not? No, because of the different ability and every student is at a
different level. So for the lower abilities, they need an easier activity and a
challenging activity for the higher skills. If it were only an easy activity, the

higher capacities would get bored. If it were a hard activity, the lower abilities
would find it difficult.

6. Arrange to attend a planning session with the teacher/team.
