“Uma coleção de arte
contemporânea para Josefa
de Óbidos
- entre fora e dentro, entre o
que é e o que possa ser”
As obras viajantes, desde o Palácio de Pombal (séc.
XVIII) e sob égide histórica e mítica do seu Marquês,
chegam a Óbidos com propósito de estadia na vila
de Josefa, pintora nata em Sevilha e cuja atividade
aqui se desenvolveu, ganhando-lhe o apelido. Será
o início de uma Coleção de Arte contemporânea
para Josefa de Óbidos que, ano a ano encontrará
sua diversidade, com as exposições sazonais numa
periodicidade que se pretende duradoira. Durante
alguns meses, algumas das obras produzidas no
Carpe Diem – Arte e Pesquisa (Lisboa) cumprem
jornadas neste encontro - fora do temo e dentro da
vila - de Josefa, revisitando essa outra época, dos
encomendadores de obras que se deslocavam da
capital até à Casa das Senhoras Rainhas, para reco-
nhecerem a perfetibilidade e virtuosismo da pintora
[barroca] seiscentista.
Os 13 artistas desenvolveram, em contexto de resi-
dência artística, fora ou dentro de seu país, as res-
petivas obras, aqui entendidas como impulsionado-
ras deste projeto curatorial. Entre 2009 e 2012, as
obras foram concebidas e apresentadas em diferen-
tes edições da programação do Carpe Diem – Arte
e Pesquisa (Lisboa, curadorias de Paulo Reis e de

These artworks, traveling from the eighteenth-century
Palácio de Pombal under the historical and mythical
aegis of its Marques, arrive in Óbidos with the propo-
sition for a stay in the village of Josefa. Born in Seville,
Josefa’s work developed here, thus earning him the
nickname. This exhibition represents the beginning of
a collection of contemporary art for Josefa de Óbidos,
unfolding in its diversity year by year, with seasonal
exhibitions for an extensive period of time. For some
months, some of the works produced at Carpe Diem
Arte e Pesquisa (Lisbon) find a new place in this en-
counter with Josefa – outside of time, inside the vil-
lage. It is as though the works are revisiting another
era, visiting the patrons of the arts who relocated from
the capital to the Casa das Senhoras Rainhas, to rec-
ognize the perfectability and the virtuosity of baroque
painting of the seventeenth century.
In the context of an artistic residency (either inside
or outside their own countries) these thirteen artists
developed their respective works, understood here
as impulses of this curatorial project. Between 2009
and 2012, the works were conceived and shown in
different editions of the programming for Carpe Diem
Arte e Pesquisa (Lisbon, curated by Paulo Reis and
Lourenço Egreja) e na XV Bienal de Cerveira (Vila
Nova de Cerveira, curadoria de Fátima Lambert).
Estas obras começaram a existir, sendo decididas
para um lugar e implantação específicos, cabendo
agora o desafio – acarinhado pelos artistas, quanto
pelos curadores – de serem deslocadas de Lisboa
até à vila de Óbidos… permitindo outras assunções
e devaneios. O Marquês de Pombal vai visitar Josefa,
a pintora, propiciando-se novas leituras de uma cole-
ção de Arte Contemporânea…poder-se-á pensar!
As peças visitam outros públicos, numa errância
com destino, assumindo uma recepção dinâmica,
improvisando novas interpretações e disponibili-
dades culturais. Num espaço patrimonial e envol-
vimento paisagístico singulares, a alocação das re-
feridas obras em Óbidos, servirá de motor à desco-
berta de suas extensões em localizações de interior
e exterior, para os visitantes e para a comunidade
local. Outras produções destes artistas completam
uma leitura em processo, aberta, correspondendo à
intervenção sociocultural e artística expandida.
Novas compreensões e apropriações ativas, regidas
pela convição de sustentabilidade e diálogo institu-
cional, viabilizadas pelas entidades com responsa-
bilidade pública e societária em articulação com os
artistas e demais operadores culturais.
Pretende-se vivificar estas obras, em contexto de
descentralização cultural, atendendo à componente
patrimonial mista (imaterial, natural e arquitetónica)
e movimentando‐as para um futuro acrescido, a
partir do presente em desenvolvimento.

These works came into existence as proposals for
site-specific installations, and now comes the chal-
lenge – cherished among artists and curators – of
moving these works from Lisbon to the town of Óbi-
dos. This shift allows for new assumptions and con-
siderations. The Marquês de Pombal will thus visit
Josefa, the painter, to provide new readings of a col-
lection of contemporary art – or so we might think.
The pieces visit a different public, wandering with
destiny, assuming a dynamic reception, improvis-
ing new interpretations and cultural availabilities. In
a space of cultural heritage, involving unique natural
landscapes, the placement of these works in Óbidos
serves to propel the discovery of their interpretive
extensions, inside and outside, for visitors as well as
for the local community. Other productions of these
artists complete a reading already in process, open,
corresponding to the expanded socio-cultural and
artistic intervention.
New understandings and active appropriations, gov-
erned by the conviction of sustainability and institu-
tional dialogue, are made possible by the entities with
public accountability and ownership, in conjunction
with other artists and cultural operators.
The intent is to revive these works in the context of
cultural decentralization, given the component of
mixed equity (immaterial, natural and architectonic)
and moving them toward future growth, beginning
with the developing present.

Laura Vinci nasceu em 1962, vive e trabalha em São Paulo, Brasil. Formou-se em Artes Plásticas na Funda-
ção Armando Álvares Penteado e fez seu mestrado na Escola de Comunicação e Artes da USP (São Paulo).
Tem participado de várias exposições no Brasil e no exterior.
Laura Vinci, born in 1962, lives and works in São Paulo, Brazil. She graduated from the Fundação Armando
Álvares Penteado with a degree in Fine Arts, and did her master’s degree at the Escola de Comunicação e
Artes at the Universidade São Paulo. She has participated in exhibitions in Brazil and abroad.

Marcelo Moscheta nasceu em 1976, São José do Rio Preto, Brasil. Vive e trabalha em Campinas, Brasil.
Formado em Artes Plásticas pela UNICAMP, 2000. Mestre em Artes Visuais pela UNICAMP, 2006. Expõe,
com regularidade, em individuais e participa em exposições coletivas. Realiza, com frequência, residências
artísticas em vários países.
Marcelo Moscheta, born in 1976 in São José do Rio Preto, Brazil, he now lives and works in Campinas,
Brazil. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts in 2000, and finished a master’s degree in Visual
Arts in 2006, both at UNICAMP. Moscheta shows his work regularly, in both solo and group exhibits. He takes
frequent artistic residencies in several countries.

Manuel Caeiro nasceu em Évora, 1975. Vive e trabalha entre Lisboa e Rio de Janeiro. Foi docente na Univer-
sidade de Évora – 2004/2011. Seu trabalho situa-se actualmente entre a pintura e a escultura. Está represen-
tado em várias colecções nacionais e internacionais. Trabalha com galerias em Lisboa, Braga, S. Paulo, Rio
de Janeiro, Bruxelas, Palma de Mallorca e Espanha, expondo em individuais e coletivas.
Manuel Caeiro was born in Évora in 1975. He lives and works betwen Lisbon and Rio de Janeiro, and was
a lecturer at the Universidade de Évora between 2004 and 2011. His work currently situates itself between
painting and sculpture, and is represented in many national and international collections. Caeiro works with
galleries in Lisbon, Braga, São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Brussels, Palma de Mallorca and Spain, exhibiting in
both solo and group shows.

Max Frey nasceu em Graz (Áustria), 1976. Estudou na University of Applied Arts em Viena, tendo recebido
o diploma em Transmedia Art com distinção, 1999. Entre as exposições individuais destaque: “Galerie fuer
Gegenwartskunst - Barbara Claassen-Schmal”, Bremen, Alemanha e ”Max Frey - d/220 rotor e as bolhas
flutuantes”na Vera Cortês Art Agency, Lisboa, Portugal, em 2009.
Max Frey was born in Graz, Austria, in 1976. He studied at the University of Applied Arts in Viena, receiving
the diploma in Multimedia Art, with honors, in 1999. Among his featured solo exhibitions are “Galerie fuer
Gegenwartskunst - Barbara Claassen-Schmal,” Bremen, Germany; and ”Max Frey - d/220 rotor e as bolhas
flutuantes” at Vera Cortês Art Agency in Lisbon in 2009.

Nuno Cera nasceu em Beja, 1972. Vive e trabalha em Berlim e Lisboa. Recebeu em 2001 a bolsa João
Hogan da Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian para a residência artística na Künstlerhaus Bethanien, Berlim. Em
2002 publicou Cimêncio (Fenda Ed.) com o arquiteto Diogo Lopes, um levantamento de paisagens suburba-
nas. Expõe, com regularidade, individualmente e participa em exposições colectivas.
Nuno Cera was born in Beja in 1072. He lives and works in Berlin and Lisbon. In 2001 he received the
João Hogan scholarship from the Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian for an artistic residency at the Künstlerhaus
Bethanien, in Berlin. In 2002 Cera published Cimêncio (Fenda Ed.), a survey of suburban landscapes, with the
architect Diogo Lopes. He shows regularly in individual as well as collective exhibitions.

Samuel Rama nasceu em Coimbra, 1977. Vive e trabalha em Lisboa e nas Caldas da Rainha. Licenciatura
em Artes Plásticas pela Escola Superior de Artes e Design, Caldas da Rainha, onde é docente. Aguarda
defesa da tese de doutoramento na Universidade de Valência. Expõe, com regularidade, individualmente,
participando em exposições coletivas.
Samuel Rama was born in Coimbra in 1977. He lives and works in Lisbon and Caldas da Rainha. He has a degree
in Fine Arts from the Escola Superior de Artes e Design, Caldas da Rainha, where he is lecturer, and will defend his

Tatiana Blass nasceu em São Paulo, 1979. Formou-se em 2001, Bacharelado em Artes Plásticas na Univer-
sidade Estadual Paulista (UNESP). A partir de 1998, participa regularmente de salões, mostras em ateliês,
exposições coletivas e individuais. É representada pela Galeria Millan, São Paulo.
Tatiana Blass was born in São Paulo in 1979. She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts from
UNESP in 2001. Since 1988, she has participated regularly in shows, exhibitions and workshops, and is
represented by the Galeria Millan in São Paulo.

Marcio Vilela nasceu em 1978 na cidade do Recife, no Brasil. Vive e trabalha em Lisboa. Em 2006 licenciou-
se em fotografia pela Escola Superior de Tecnologia de Tomar, sendo docente desta instituição desde o ano
de 2008. Expõe regularmente em individuais e participa em exposições coletivas. É artista representado pela
Galeria Mariana Moura.
Marcio Vilela was born in 1978 in Recife, Brazil. He lives and works in Lisbon. In 2006 he graduated with a
degree in photography from the Escola Superior de Tecnologia in Tomar, and has been a lecturer there since
2008. Showing regularly, he is represented by the Galeria Mariana Moura.

Jeanine Cohen (BE, 1951) vive e trabalha em Bruxelas. O seu trabalho consiste, sobretudo, em pinturas
site-specific sobre parede para instituições e coleções públicas, privadas e empresariais. Representada em
coleções públicas na Bélgica, Suécia, Islândia e em várias coleções privadas na Bélgica, Islândia, Israel,
Inglaterra, E.U.A., Portugal, Espanha e França.
Jeanine Cohen, born in 1951, lives and works in Brussels. Her work consists primarily of site-specific
paintings on the walls of public, private and corporate institutions and collections. Her work is included in
public collections in Belgium, Switzerland, and Iceland, as well as in various private collections in Belgium,
Iceland, England, the United States, Portugal, Spain and France.

Nuno Sousa Vieira nasceu em 1971 em Leiria, Portugal. Vive e trabalha em Leiria e Lisboa.
Licenciatura em Artes Plásticas, ESTGAD, Caldas da Rainha, Portugal. Expõe individualmente com regulari-
