6. Instructional Procedures:
 Before: To begin the lesson, I will start by having the students come to the carpet. I’ll
ask my essential questions- Based on the pictures and title, how do you think stone
soup is made? What are the ingredients?(Using TPT) I will also ask the students if
they have ever helped cook at home and followed a recipe?
 During: We will read through Stone Soup. To begin the read, I will ask the students
the following questions before and during the reading-
a. How would you react to strangers coming to your town/ home?
b. Why did the peasants hide all the food? If you were in their situation would
you have done the same? Explain your reasoning

d. Based on what we know, if the soldiers hadn’t come up with their plan, what
do you think would have happened?
These questions will be asked as think pair share or as individual questioning.
Additionally while they are reading, the students will be tasked with writing down the
steps and ingredients for making stone soup. Then when we are finished reading, as a
group we will complete a how to make stone soup recipe guide. This is a model for
the students to follow for their how to guides. Individually the students will come up
and pick a popsicle stick labelled with one of four how to topics. Then they will work
independently to complete their own how to booklet.
 After: To complete the lesson, the students will share (read and act out) their how to
booklets with two different partners and four students will share their booklets to the
class (acting out the steps in addition to reading).

create a how to booklet based on the topic chosen. Do the steps they included make sense
and do they go in a reasonable order?

8. Differentiated Instruction: For this particular lesson, I will differentiate in a few ways. I
will model the activity so they have an idea of what I am expecting in their booklets.
During the independent work I will walk around to ensure that a child who maybe
struggling is able to get some one on one as well as provide the extra support during
center time. I will also vary work as individual, pair, and whole group.
