Good Morning

The topic for todays pep talk is about Herbs and Spices by Arlene Corpus a
Registered Dietician, who is a therapeutic and chief dietician of an institution
in Manila.

Herbs and Spices are not only add zing to our cooking, they also for
flavouring and coloring. More importantly, herbs and spices are packed with
essential nutrients and healing properties- could be eaten, sipped, inhaled, or
applied on your body.

1. Mango Leaves-

Health Perks

-Acts as mouth wash

For mouthwash problems, Steep mature mango leaves in hot water until the
latter turns yellow.

-fights cold, bronchitis and asthma

-gives protection against diabetic angiopathy

-keeps blood pressure down

-lowers sugar in diabetes

FOR THE LEAVES:

-Add 3 Mangosteen leaves in 3 cups of boiling water. Boil until only half
remains.

2. Mangosteen Leaves or Rind

For the leaf

-Aids in losing weight

-Treats diarrhea, dysentery and urinary disorders

-helps reduce cholesterol levels and helps prevent cancer of the liver
For the Rind

-Boosts red blood cells, protecting the body from anemia

-heals damaged cells which are mostly responsible for the aging process

3. Jackfruit

Leaf: It helps treat skin problems, fever, boils , wounds and diabetes

For the Seeds

-It helps prevent constipation

-keeps muscle strong and boost libido

4. Lemon Leaves

-It acts as a natural air fresheners

-Helps treat insomnia

-Promotes the healing of migraine, headache, asthma

-Assists in cleaning the lungs

-boosts the immune system

Health Care for Migraine, Headache and Asthma

-Steeps lemon leaves in a cup of hot water for about 10-15minutes. Drink 2
cup every nights for two weeks.

5. Guava Leaves

-Aids in losing weight by preventing the formation of fat cells

-alleviates toothache

-gives relief to cough and cold

-helps cure diarrhea

For healthcare of cough and colds

Add 5-6 leaves in 1 cup of boiling water. Cover and simmer for at least 10
minutes. Press leaves to get extract. Strain and drink.

6. Turmeric

-fights colds,cough and congestion.
