PIPE AND MAIN DECKS IN PROMINENT RED BOXES CLEARLY MARKED
LIFEJACKETS!

THERE ARE 30 OF THESE IN TOTAL. 20 LIFEBUOYS WITH ATTACHED 125’
LIFELINE AND SELF IGNITING LIGHT, PLUS 10 LIFEBUOYS MOUNTED IN A
QUICK RELEASE RACK, INCORPORATING SELF IGNITING LIGHT AND SMOKE
SIGNAL, THESE ARE PROMINENTLY SITED ON THE MAIN DECK AND PIPE RACK
DECK.

2. SAFETY INFORMATION AND PRECAUTIONS

- PELAUT IS EQUIPPED WITH FOUR 58 MAN TOTALLY ENCLOSED WATERCRAFT


LIFEBOATS AND EIGHT 25 MAN INFLATABLE LIFE RAFTS.

- THE LIFEBOATS ARE LOCATED ON THE PORT AND STARBOARD STERN, LIFE
RAFTS SITUATED WITH FOUR ON PORT SIDE AND FOUR ON STARBOARD SIDE.

- THE LIFEBOATS AND LIFE RAFTS ARE EQUIPPED WITH A COMPLETE INVENTORY
OF LIFE SAVING EQUIPMENT AND INSTRUCTION MANUALS.

- ALL DOORS AND HATCHES MUST BE TIGHTLY CLOSED AND SEAT BELTS
SECURELY FASTENED BEFORE LOWERING LIFEBOAT.

- DO NOT TOUCH RELEASE LEVER UNTIL BOAT IS WATERBORNE. INCORRECT USE


CAN CAUSE FREE FALL OF THE BOAT WHICH MAY SERIOUSLY INJURE OR KILL
OCCUPANTS.

3. PROCEDURES

3.1 FOR OPERATING, MANNING AND LOWERING LIFEBOATS

1. RELEASE GRIPS AT BOTH ENDS OF BOAT SO WEIGHT OF LIFEBOAT IS ON THE


FALLS.

2. COXSWAIN STARTS THE ENGINE. (NOTE: DO NOT SHIFT INTO GEAR WHILE OUT
OF WATER EXCEPT TO CHECK OPERATION OF GEARBOX.)

3. WHEN ABANDON SHIP ALARM IS SOUNDED AND INSTRUCTIONS GIVEN ALL


PERSONNEL SHOULD EMBARK AND SECURELY FASTEN SEAT BELTS. NOTE: WHEN
BOARDING THE LIFEBOAT OCCUPY THE LOWEST THEN THE HIGHEST SEATING IN
THE BOW AND STERN FIRST. ALLOW FOR THE QUICKEST, EASIEST ENTRY OF
OTHERS BOARDING.

4. CLOSE ALL DOORS, VENTILATORS AND HATCHES TIGHTLY.

5. LOWER BOAT BY PULLING WINCH REMOTE CONTROL WIRE. TENSION MUST BE


KEPT ON WIRE AS LOWERING STOPS IMMEDIATELY WHEN TENSION IS RELEASED.

6. WHEN BOAT IS FULLY WATERBORNE RELEASE WIRE, REMOVE SAFETY PIN AND
LIFT RED RELEASE LEVER AND PULL AFT.

7. RELEASE FALLS AND MANOEUVRE LIFEBOAT AWAY FROM DANGER AREA.

3.2 FOR RECOVERY OF LIFEBOAT

1. BEFORE BRINGING BOAT ALONGSIDE PAY OUT ADDITIONAL FALL WIRE IF


NECESSARY BY OPERATING MANUAL PAY OUT UNIT.

2. BEFORE RECOVERY IS INITIATED RESET RELEASE GEAR AND INSTRUCT SEAMEN
TO CHECK HOOKS ARE FULLY LOCKED IN PLACE. DO NOT INSERT SAFETY PINS
AT THIS STAGE.

3. COXSWAIN MANOEUVRES BOAT ALONGSIDE.

4. SEAMEN RECOVERS FALL WIRES AND ENGAGES FALL TERMINAL RINGS INTO
THE HOOKS. NOTIFY COXSWAIN THAT BOAT IS READY FOR RECOVERY.

5. ENSURE HOOK RETAINER RINGS REMAIN PROPERLY ENGAGED UNTIL A STRAIN


IS TAKEN ON FALL WIRES.

6. WINCH OPERATOR ON TENDER ENSURES BRAKE LEVER IS FULLY ON. COXSWAIN


INFORMS WINCH OPERATOR BOAT IS READY TO BE RAISED.

7. WINCH OPERATOR PUSHES HOIST BUTTON AND HOLDS WHILE WATCHING


LIFTING OPERATION.

8. ONCE BOAT IS CLEAR OF WATER SAFETY PINS IN THE RELEASE GEAR SHOULD BE
REPLACED.

9. WINCH OPERATOR MUST EXERCISE CAUTION AS BOAT NEARS FULLY STOWED


POSITION AND BE PREPARED FOR LIMIT SWITCH MALFUNCTION.

10. AFTER BOAT IS STOPPED BY LIMIT SWITCH ALL PERSONNEL MUST DISEMBARK
AND THEN HAND CRANK THE BOAT THE REMAINING DISTANCE INTO DAVIT
BUMPERS. STOW CRANK HANDLE.

11. FEED REMOTE CONTROL WIRE THROUGH FITTING IN COVER OF BOAT AND
ENSURE WIRE IS CORRECTLY REEVED ON DRUM.

12. REMOVE BOAT PLUG TO ALLOW WATER TO DRAIN FROM INSIDE BOAT. REPLACE
BOAT PLUG.

3.3 FOR LAUNCHING LIFE RAFTS

1. STOWAGE POSITION

THE LIFE RAFTS ARE STORED IN A POSITION WHERE LAUNCHING FROM THE SIDE
OF THE TENDER WILL NOT DAMAGE THEM.

2. SECURING THE PAINTER

THE PAINTER SHOULD BE SECURED TO A STRONG POINT NEARBY.

3. INFLATION

DROP THE RAFT WITH THE CONTAINER INTO THE WATER, PULL THE PAINTER
AND THE INFLATION GEAR WILL BE ACTIVATED AUTOMATICALLY. CARBON
DIOXIDE GAS FROM THE CYLINDER WILL INFLATE BUOYANCY TUBE OF THE
RAFT INSTANTLY.

4. BOARDING THE RAFT

BOARD THE RAFT, LOOK OUT FOR OTHER SURVIVORS IN THE WATER AND ASSIST
THEM.

5. IMMEDIATE ACTIONS AFTER BOARDING

UNTIE THE RAFT FROM THE TENDER, USING THE SNAP-RING AT THE BREAKING
TAPE AND LEAVE THE TENDER AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.

6. RIGHTING CAPSIZED RAFT

IN CASE OF RAFT INFLATING IN AN INVERTED POSITION, THE RAFT CAN BE


EASILY RIGHTED BY ONE PERSON. THE CORRECT PROCEDURES ARE AS
FOLLOWS:

A) TURN THE RAFT WITH THE CANOPY INTO THE WIND.


B) CLIMB ONTO THE CYLINDER OF THE RAFT AND USE THE HANDHOLDS
PROVIDED.
C) LEAN WELL BACK AND AS THE RAFT COMES OVER, SWIM FROM UNDER
IT.

7. MORALE

GOOD LEADERSHIP AND ENCOURAGEMENT ARE MOST IMPORTANT FOR ANY LIFE
RAFT CREW TO SURVIVE. THE LEADER OF THE CREW SHOULD LEAD IN A
PROFESSIONAL MANNER, READING INSTRUCTION AND SURVIVAL BOOKS
CAREFULLY.
