ou like the pistol you’ve chosen for concealed carry,
but somehow it could be just a little bit better. In
the days when revolvers were king, the first thing,
if anything, that you changed was the grips. In this
age of polymer-frame semi-auto pistols that’s a bit harder to
do, although many come with interchangeable backstraps or
palm swells.
Today, you’re more apt to swap out the sights. Maybe you’re
having trouble seeing the sights and you want a bright fiber
optic set. Or maybe you want night sights for low-light de-
fensive use. Maybe you need higher sights to peek above the
suppressor you’ve thinking of adding. The good news is that
there’s a great selection of aftermarket sights from companies
that specialize in sights or gun optics. Here we’re highlighting
some of the best that you can buy to get your gun on target
quickly and accurately.

are made in the U.S. of machined 4140 steel coated
with black nitride for corrosion and wear resistance.
They make use of a patent-pending injection-molded
aluminum sleeves that hold the tritium vials in place—a
more durable design that also provides for a brighter
sight. The front sight features a choice of a white,
orange or yellow florescent ring around the tritium, so
the sights are easy to acquire day or night. The rear
sights are available with either a U-notch or a square
notch, outlined, black or blank. The sights are available

Ameriglo Agent
Ameriglo has a wide range of aftermarket sights of nearly every config-
uration. Its Agent three-dot sights, shown, feature a ProGlo green tritium
insert surrounded by a wide orange outline for high visibility both day and night. The rear
sight features a serrated U-notch with green tritium dots. At this time this was written,
they were offered only for Glock pistols. Glock M pistols that won the FBI contract come
equipped with Ameriglo sights. The company’s new Defensive Carry sights, also initially
for Glocks, are similar, except that the front sight is also offered with a lime green outline
around the tritium and the rear sight has a white outline—instead of black—around the
tritium.Ameriglo makes high sights, too, for use with a suppressor or optic mounted. The
company also offers an unusual but highly effective set of night sights with a ghost ring
rear sight—very quick on target. The ghost ring also has a small tritium dot on each side
of the ring. For those who prefer something other than a standard three-dot configuration,
Ameriglo’s I-Dot sights have an outlined tritium front sight with a single dot rear. They’re
made for Glock, S&W, Sig and Springfield Armory handguns. The company offers fiber optic
sights as well.

Trijicon HD
XR Night Sights
Trijicon has long been the
standard for high quality night sights. They’re
used by numerous law enforcement agencies.
Trijicon’s newest HD XR three-dot night sights
provide quick sight acquisition with their large
dot front sight. But that front sight post is nar-
rower than others—just 0.122 inch. That allows
for more precise aiming with more daylight
visible on each side of that front sight when
you align it with the rear. And that narrower
front sight won’t obscure the target at longer
distances. The sights are available with either
an orange or yellow ring surrounding a tritium
lamp capped with a sapphire jewel for a bright
sight picture day or night. The ring is imbued
with luminescent (glow-in-the-dark) paint for
the clearest sight picture in transitional light
between daylight and eventual darkness,
when the tritium component takes over. The
rear sight has a wide U-notch opening and a
steep, hooked front edge to aid in emergency
slide manipulation by catching it against a rigid
surface.

EASY
DISASSEMBLY
Fieldstripping the H9 is simple. Clear the magazine
and lock the slide to the rear. Inspect the chamber
to be certain it isn’t loaded. The takedown lever is
pressed inwards right to left and rotated. Then work
the slide from the rear to the front and the slide is
removed from the frame. (The trigger must be pulled
to remove the slide.) The barrel is easily removed from
the slide by pressing it downwards. The recoil spring
stays in the frame.
