Dr Ambedkar was born on 14th April 1891.

His mother died when he was only five and he


faced lots of discrimination based on caste during his childhood.

In 1906, Dr Ambedkar married to Ramabai at the young age.

In 1907, Dr. Ambedkar passed 10th class; he was the first Dalit in India ever to achieve that
feat.

July 1913 Dr Ambedkar joined Columbia University (USA) with economics, sociology as major
subjects.

June 1916, Dr. Ambedkar earned Ph.D. degree from the Columbia University.

Dr Ambedkar started various newspapers to voice against the discrimination and for
equality. Newspapers started by Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar – Mooknayak (Mute Hero – 1920),
Bahishkrut Bharat (India Ostracized – 1927), Janata (Masses – 1930) and Prabudhha Bharat
(An Awakened India – 1956).

2nd March 1930, Kalaram Temple Satyagraha (struggle) led by Dr Ambedkar. The movement
was to have a right to enter temple as Dalits were not allowed to enter Hindu temple.

On 20th March 1927, Dr Ambedkar led a movement, Mahad Satyagraha, for untouchables’
right to access water from public tank/lake as untouchables (Dalits) were not allowed to
drink water from public tank/lake.

On 25th December 1927, Dr Ambedkar publically burnt Manusmriti, ancient Hindu law book
which promotes caste discrimination, at Mahad, small town in Maharashtra, India.

August 1936, Dr Ambedkar started Independent Labour Party. Its Manifesto declared,
encompassing social, political, economical, educational and rural policy. Dr Ambedkar’s
election symbol in 1937 election was ‘Man’.

On 27th July 1942, Dr Ambedkar was appointed Labour Minister.

On 15th August 1947, Dr Ambedkar became independent India’s first Law Minister.

Dr Ambedkar was the chairman of the drafting committee of the constitution of India, which
considered as the largest written constitution in the world granting fundamental rights to all
citizens.

The Columbia University conferred an honorary Degree of Doctor of Laws on Dr. Ambedkar
in recognition of Drafting of Indian Constitution, Social Reformer and Valiant fighter for
Human Rights at the hands of General Eisenhower, the President of Columbia University,
New York on June 5, 1952

On 14th October 1956, Dr Ambedkar led one of the largest mass conversion in the history,
converting to Buddhism with almost half a million people (mainly untouchables).

Dr. Ambedkar died on December 6, 1956 at his residence 26 Alipore Road, New Delhi. The
historic (biggest in Bombay History) funeral procession started from Rajgraha on December
7, 1956.

In 1990, Dr Ambedkar was awarded Bharat Ratna, highest civilian award in India.

14th April 2016, first ever Dr Ambedkar’s statue in Hungary was installed at Dr Ambedkar
school in Sajokaza!
