The perturbed-hard-sphere-chain (PHSC) theory was used to de-

scribe thermodynamic solid-fluid and solid-liquid-fluid equilibria
for mixtures of small (solvent) and large (solute) molecules at high
pressure. The multi-component mixture was described using the
PHSC EOS, written for a multi-component system. Conventional
combining rules were used to obtain thermodynamic properties.
The PHSC EOS fairly describes solid-fluid equilibria for heavy
compounds in compressed CO2, and also the equilibrium composi-
tion of three-component mixtures at high pressures, similar to
those used in supercritical anti-solvent recrystallization pro-
cesses. Alternatively, within the McMillan-Mayer thermodynamic
framework, the solute-solvent mixture was considered as a pseudo
one-component system. The possibility of simplifying and reducing
the multi-component system to accomplish this approach makes it
an attractive alternative for the thermodynamic description of high-
molecular-weight compounds solubility in supercritical CO2.
