SPECIAL TASK REQUIREMENT

EPP 2 – WRITTEN COMMUNICATION

The special task requirement for EPP 2 is an essay portfolio. An essay portfolio is a collection of the
student’s essay papers. The student should write the following essays:

1. Descriptive Essay - aimed at describing an object, phenomenon or event. A description process may
be conducted through the introduction of examples, utilization of expressive language, comparison with
some other objects, description of the personal sensations about the described object or any other
technique that discloses peculiarities of a described object, phenomenon or event in a vivid and
comprehensible way.
Writing Prompt: Write about any unique experience that you have encountered.

2. Narrative Essay – aimed at recreating an experience through time. A narrative essay can be based on
one of own experiences, either past or present, or it can be based on the experiences of someone else.
In addition to telling a story, a narrative essay also communicates a main idea or a lesson learned.
Writing Prompt: Write about a particularly meaningful achievement in your life.

3. Expository Essay – aimed at informing or explaining a subject. An expository essay is meant to

deposit information. The writer can not assume that the reader has prior knowledge or prior
understanding of the topic that is being discussed. Exposition usually proceeds by the orderly analysis of
parts and the use of familiar illustrations or analogies.

4. Definition Essay – aimed at explaining what a term means. Some terms have definite, concrete
meanings while other terms are abstract and depend more on a person’s points of view.
Writing Prompt: What is your definition of ‘Success?’

5. Persuasive/Argument Essay – aimed at utilizing logic and reason to show that one idea is more
legitimate than another idea. It attempts to persuade a reader to adopt a certain point of view or to
take a particular action. The argument must always use sound reasoning and solid evidence by stating
facts, giving logical reasons, using examples, and quoting experts.
Writing Prompt: The Department of Education has recently proposed a K-12 Education in the
Philippines. Are you in favor of this?

• Write one essay for every type of essays written above.

• You should write at least 300 words for each essay.
• Encode the essays on a short bond paper.
• Format: 1” margin on all sides, Tahoma size 11, 1.5 line spacing.
• Word Count should also be encoded at the upper right corner of the first page of each essay.
• All essays should be placed in a short blue clear folder.
