Need some help with reading all these texts? Try some of these ideas out.
1. Research the text, find chapter summaries or some author interviews BEFORE
reading so you know some of the themes and plots beforehand.

2. Check approximately how many hours you will need to read each text and make a
formal schedule
Go to the site https://www.howlongtoreadthis.com/

3. Link up with a study buddy (or start a mini book club)

Read each chapter and then catch up to talk about it before completing your notes.

4. Get someone at home to read it too, so you can discuss the texts. Same with the film.

5. Find an audio version to listen WHILE you read, NOT instead of. This will also help
with pronunciation of unfamiliar words.

6. Watch the film with the subtitles on to help your understanding.

7. Read an electronic version so you can easily look up words you don’t know or have
your dictionary beside you.

8. Use post it notes to highlight key places in the text.

9. If you write down quotes, include the page number.

10. During reading, if you are intrigued, curious or plain just bewildered, go looking for
answers.

11. Get resources from school before you leave Jump Start from Shared
