 Conclusion

History of man is the history of warfare. Thousands of wars have been fought, millions of

people have been killed and billions have suffered, yet we refuse to learn a lesson every time.

We have averted a global conflict from many years but it seems as the history is going to repeat

itself. The statement of the essay itself discloses the unfortunate fact that we are on the brink of

a global war, again. As we head toward the imminent war that may lead to human extinction,

the real question to ask here is that whether it can be averted or is it fait accompli.

The ongoing conflict in the Middle East, tussle between Iran and KSA, the start of the Second

Cold War, growth of fascism and extremism, rising water conflicts in the wake of climate

change, uncontrollable terrorism, weaknesses of international law, new imperialistic designs etc

depict the surging pressure and tension in international community. There is a strong yet

reasonable fear that these tensions and skirmishes between nations might erupt in the form of a

global military conflict. This conflict, so imminent, can be averted if nations realize their

responsibility and choose to act as rational and as civilized as they claim to have become in this

post modern era. There is nothing that mankind cannot accomplish if it is determined and in the

case of looming third world war, hope remains in the form of international law, economic

interdependence and the nuclear deterrence.
