Grade Level: Fourth
Lesson Title: Influential historical People of Idaho
Time Needed: 4 Days or 150 minutes

Standard:

 History, build an understanding of culture and social development.

a. Students will identify the major groups and significant individuals and their impact on western
expansion and the creation of the state of Idaho.

Objectives:

 Students will be able to identify significant individuals and their impact on the creation of the state of
Idaho by making a poster of 1 or 24 influential individuals

 Students will use their understanding on how to research and how to use library databases to get reliable
information on a certain topic

Materials Needed:

 Computer with access to the internet for more than one student

 Computer with Microsoft word and printing abilities.

 Glue

 Poster board

 Markers

 Bucket with 24 names of Historical figures from Idaho

Discussion: (25 Minutes)

 I will show them a poster I made or of previous student made of an individual and discuss what is
needed on their poster to insure they understand the requirements such as the name of the influential
person, their date of birth, the date they died, what they looked like (a picture) and what they did for
Idaho.

 As a class, we will discuss some influential individuals to get ideas and see how much they know
already.

 We will discuss appropriate websites to use for their research and how to use a library database.

Activity: (125 Minutes Spread out between three days)

 Students will spend day one gathering their research and planning their poster and presentations.

 Students will spend day two putting all their research onto their poster and practicing their presentation

 Students will spend day three presenting their posters to the class and showing what they learned about
the individual they were researching.

Check for understanding: (25 Minutes) Students will take a short multiple-choice quiz about some of the
influential people discussed by their peers in order to show that they were not only paying attention to their
peer’s presentations but also show what they learned from the presentations.
