Millennials, the generation born between 1980 and 2000, are the target public for
outreach. This generation is between the ages of 20-30 years old, in between Generation X and
Generation Z. This generation is comprised of young professionals, college students and
graduate students, new parents and the new faces of givers in the United States. The baby
boomer generation have taken the lead as “most charitable generation” for many years, but
millennials are hot on their tails. With new technology and marketing, it makes donating to
charity as easy as clicking a button. Raised with technology at the center of everything,
millennials are effected by videos and marketing techniques from charities more than any other
generation. Millennials, or “Millennial Miracle Makers,” are going to be the generation to
change the world.
Not all millennials can afford to donate large amounts of money to a corporation, but the
newest way to donate, through crowdfunding, is the newest, most popular way to donate money
to causes. Crowdfunding is the process of donating small amounts of money to causes, from a
large number of individuals. In 2014 alone, 16.2 billion dollars were donated to things such as
medical expenses, memorials, adoptions and disaster relief through crowdfunding (Bourque,
2016.) By creating a way to donate small amounts of money as easy as entering a credit card
number, it gives millennials a chance to donate smaller amounts of cash without feeling the
pressure of writing a big check. This gives millennials a sense of doing something to help the big
picture, without having to strain too much financially.

Bowling has been an American pastime for hundreds of years, dating back to 3200 BC. King
Henry even outlawed bowling in his country during wars so that his troops could focus on archery and not
bowling pins. Bowling is a classic game that has been enjoyed for a long time, even in the White House.
The White House bowling alley was built as a birthday present for President Truman in 1947 and since
then has stirred the interest and excitement of people all over the world, including Mateo from
Jacksonville, Fla.
Mateo discovered he had cancer while sitting at a Chick-Fil-A restaurant with his dad and it was a
devastating blow to Mateo and his whole family. To cope with treatment, Mateo began to read all he
could about American history, which is where he came across the White House bowling alley. When
Mateo was referred to Dreams Come True, a non-profit that provides dreams to kids with life-threatening
illnesses in Northeast Florida, he wrote to them and described his dream of bowling at the White House.
Dreams Come True got all hands on deck to make this dream for Mateo a reality. They contacted
Florida senators, congressman, media and anyone they thought might have contacts in the White House.
“I’m happy in police to say that today we’re going to be bowling in the White House!” said David Long,
of Miller Electric, when telling Mateo that his dream was going to be a reality. Shortly after, Dreams
Come True, Mateo and his family headed to Washington, D.C. for the experience of a lifetime.
“Coming here that’s all I thought was going to happen, just go to the bowling alley and leave,”
Mateo said in an interview with Dreams Come True. “The next thing I know we’re at the Pentagon, we’re
having lunch with a three-star general, tour of the White House east and west wings, we did everything, it
was amazing.”
Mateo has been cancer-free since November 2016 and is one of the 3,600 kids in the Jacksonville
area who have had dreams fulfilled by Dreams Come True. Dreams Come True wants to grant more
dreams every year and help kids like Mateo get through some of the hardest times of their lives. Consider

To inform and educate citizens of Jacksonville about Dreams Come True in hoping that they will feel
motivated to support and donate towards the cause.
Millennials, the generation born between 1980 and 2000, between the ages of 20 and 30 years old.
The target audience is familiar with competing non-profits such as Make-A-Wish and Children’s Miracle
Network, but not so familiar with Dreams Come True because it is a smaller, local organization. They
may have heard the name “Dreams Come True” at some point but are unaware that the organization
solely benefits children in the Jacksonville area and that it is a completely non-profitable organization.
We would like to educate the demographic about Dreams Come True and iterate that it is a completely
non-profitable organization, meaning that all the funds go towards making dreams happen for local kids
in Jacksonville. Also, that every penny counts and you don’t have to donate large sums of money to make
a difference.
Dreams Come True has granted over 3,000 dreams to kids in the Jacksonville area and they continue to
add more kids to that list every year. It is an organization that you can feel good about donating money to
because every single penny goes back to granting dreams for kids with life-threatening illnesses.
