Allotted 20 sec 1. Anticipatory Set - Introduce myself, direct attention to the screen - Students are expected to work as a class and then individually later in the lesson 30 sec 1. State Purpose and Objective(s) of Lesson: - Purpose: Get students comfortable with beginning letters of words by way of Phonics - Objectives: Students will know what letter sounds are and will have a better knowledge of how to find the first sound of a word.
2 min 2. Plan for Instruction:
55 sec 1. Introduce the lesson topic 2. Hand out quiz and instruct students to wait for the end of the lesson to complete it. 3. Switch to the phonics slides… 4. Instruct the students to say the first letter’s name and sound followed by the name of the object. (Use ‘A’ as an example)
10 sec 3. Differentiation Considerations:
- Students who finish the quiz early can identify the first letter of their names at the bottom of the quiz - Students who fall behind/struggle can fill out two answers to demonstrate understanding
understanding based on how many blanks are filled in with the proper letter. - Introduce Quiz - Instruct students to fill in the spaces using what they have just learned - Ask students by raise of hands what they believe the answer to be and who agrees. - Reveal answers one at a time.
30 sec 4. Closure: Ask students:
- Who would like to share an example of their name and the letter it starts with? - “Today we learned all about phonics. You guys will be able to use phonics to help you sound out words and eventually learn to read and write.”
