Memories

by Cristian Alexǎ

I remember very fondly my childhood Christmases. They are the days when our whole
house smells of pine and oranges, yes, and my mother’s homemade cakes. She wakes up very
early in the morning, fretting about everything that needs to be done or made in time for
Christmas day.

I love the noises I can hear coming from the kitchen while I am lying lazily in my bed.
Later in the day, my mom, my brother and I trim the tree my dad brought into our “library”, the
room filled to the brim with books that I love most in our house, and we put up the shiny
ornaments, and there is laughter and playing around and lots of mishaps and sometimes broken
things that nobody minds, not on Christmas Eve.

There, we spend time together, make wishes and ask for Christmas presents that we
hope we can get, new phones for me and my brother or more books to read. There, we boys
hope that this year, maybe, we get to see Santa Claus.
