Description of School:

There are definitely some strengths when looking at this school districts report

card. One would be that they have a high graduation rate with a high percentage of 94.5%

in four years, and 98.7% in five years. This is a much higher rate when comparing it to

the state as a whole with 84.1% in four years and 86.1% at five years. The grade of the

gifted student in the school is also a strength as they were given the grade of an A in that

area.

Some challenges that I noticed with student’s academic success be in the high

school the students were making less progress than expected in all subjects except

English Language Arts II where the students made progress similar to the statewide

expectation. Another thing I noticed what that the school received an F for progress with

students with disabilities. The school also received a grade of an F for the student’s in

lowest 20% in Achievement.

Areas of need that should be addressed through a comprehensive school

counseling program would be getting students better prepared for career and college

readiness. When looking at the yearly reports the students were not showing improvement

in test scores which can affect where they will be going after high school. Also looking at

the diversity in the school the student may need some kind of diversity awareness, due to

only a few percentage of students who are not white, a support group could be in place

for minorities in the school. There are also 35% of students who are economically

disadvantaged so I think this is something that needs to be recognized by making sure

that these students have enough support in order to be successful.

When looking at how to prioritize the area of needs I think the first thing that stick

out to me is the academic area in the school. They are showing really low scores in all
subjects and I think this is something that needs to be taken into consideration first. The

second thing I think needs to be recognized in the high percentage of students who are

academically disadvantaged and looking into if they are getting the support they need.

The third thing I think is very important is the small about of minorities and the fact that

there isn’t and ESL teachers or students to record data on.
