Topic: Solid waste from the Polytechnic University of the State of

Morelos

Hypothesis:
If the companies followed the NMX, and made the method of quartering
to know what type of waste generated, and with it do the design of
management plan, the amount of waste in the area of final disposal
would reduce.

Substantiation:
The Mexican norms in charge of the generation of municipal solid waste
are everyone’s problem and not only of the government, the interest
must be from the generating individual within his home, to the
macrogenerator of a company.

For this reason the governmental dependencies have been given the
task of designing non-obligatory Mexican Standards but of great
importance for the control of the generation of municipal solid waste or
special handling, its reduction and the increase of its valorization by
means of recycling or reuse.

Overall objective: Assess and aply the methods based on the

standards NMX-AA-15-1985, NMX-AA-19-1985 and NMX-AA-022-1985

Specific objective:  Analyze, quantify and measure the volumetric

weight of solid waste generated at the Polytechnic University of the State
of Morelos.

Basis:
NMX-AA-61-1985 Determination of Generation
NMX-AA-015-1985 Method of quartering municipal solid waste
NMX-AA-019-1985 Volumetric weight of municipal solid waste - ¨in situ¨
NMX-AA-022-1985 Selection and quantification of municipal solid waste
by-products

Background: In Mexico there has been a gap between the issuance of
environmental legislation and the creation of institutions that have
prioritized the application of this legislation. The first law of
environmental character in our country was the Federal Law of
Prevention and Control of Environmental Pollution published in 1971,
whose administration was a charge of the Ministry of Health and
Assistance.
The instruments of environmental policy are translated into fifteen
strategies of which one of them was the Official Mexican Standards .

Introduction: The General Law for the Prevention of Waste refers to the
protection of the environment in terms of prevention and integral waste
management. To carry out a residue control, special methods must be
carried out for the treatment by means of the Official Mexican Standards
NMX-AA-15-1985 (PROTECTION TO THE ENVIRONMENT - SOIL
POLLUTION - SOLID MUNICIPAL WASTE - SAMPLING -
QUARTERING METHOD) which establishes the method of quartering
for municipal solid waste and the obtaining of specimens for analysis in
the laboratory, NMX-AA-19-1985 (PROTECTION TO THE
ENVIRONMENT-POLLUTION OF SOLID MUNICIPAL
SOLIDS-VOLUMETRIC WEIGHT ¨IN SITU¨) establishes a method to
determine the Volumetric weight of the municipal solid waste in the place
where the operation of “quartering" was carried out and
NMX-AA-022-1985 (PROTECTION TO THE
ENVIRONMENT-POLLUTION OF SOLID MUNICIPAL
WASTE-SELECTION AND QUANTIFICATION OF SUB-PRODUCTS)
establishes the selection and the method for the quantification of
by-products contained in the Municipal Solid Waste.
Recommendations:
Try to create environmental awareness in students of the school about
waste
Follow the procedures indicated in the Mexican norms for an
improvement in waste disposal
Separate garbage into organic and inorganic.
If you separate materials like plastic, aluminum, paper, glass, it is also
better. Many times it is possible to sell this waste, or it can be taken to a
place where it is given an adequate use
To avoid as much as possible, the use of things we do not need, such as
plastic bags and those things, to avoid further waste
something that would be good being implemented by all of us, is that
when one of us go to buy at the market, each one should carry its own
bag, in order to not ask for more; Bring frets to food establishments
when you plan to order to go; avoid buying bottles of water daily, reuse
them or buy something that can replace the plastic

Conclusions:
If we all have environmental awareness and know the consequences if
we don’t have it, maybe would help us to be better. Making us aware of
the importance and the impact we cause in the place we live and in our
school.
