This is a very important and a necessary thread as all of us
need this for our spiritual well being which in turn ensures
our quality of life. Thanks IL!
The following two slokas are good to say at the end of the
day. I also chant them after reading Sahasranamams or other
long winding recitations because one inadvertantly makes
some pronunciation mistakes. With this, you beg for the
Almighty's forgivenss for all the trespasses.

blessed with a child. One will obtain fame. He will win legal

Sree Ganapathi Atharva Seersham
Mathru devo bhava,pitha devo bhava:
Hello ALL
This is a sooktham about Ganapathi that occurs in the
Atharvana Veda.Ganesh Atharvashirsha Avartan is performed
on "Sankashti Chaturthi.Chaturthi coinciding with Tuesday is
known as "Angariki". Atharvashirsha avartan carries a great
significance on Sankashti.
It is believed that Lord Ganesh removes sorrows & brings
happiness in life by worshiping Lord Ganesh & performing
Atharvashirsha Avartan.
18
Most effective Avartan is Sahastravartan (1000 times),
however, 108 or 21 Avartan are also very common &
beneficial.
Note: During avartan if possible perform abhisheka to
Ganesh Murti. After abhisheka, perform shodashopachar
pooja of Lord Ganesh.
If you perform avartan in the morning, take the
fasting food like sabudana (tapioca) khichadi, fruits,
milk/coffee/tea etc...
If you perform avartan in the night, ensure avartan is
complete by the moonrise time. Take regular food
after offering Nevaidya to Lord Ganesh.
Shri Ganapati Atharvashirsha was written by Atharva Rishi
who had Ganpati Darshan.

Ashta Lakshmi Stotram
I liked the following translation for Ashtalakshmi Stotram.
This Ashtalakshmi Stotram translation is done by P. R.
RamachanderMother Lakshmi is the source and provider of
the following enumerated well‐known sixteen types of
wealth and many more: (1) Fame (2) Knowledge (3) Courage
and Strength (4) Victory (5) Good Children (6) Valour (7) Gold
and other gross properties ( Grains in abundance (9)
Happiness (10) Bliss (11) Intelligence (12) Beauty (13) Higher
Aim, High Thinking and Higher Meditation too (14) Morality
and Ethics (15) Good Health (16) Long Life.
Glory of mother Ashta Lakshmi’s individual nature and forms.
1. Adi Lakshmi: Mother Lakshmi resides with Lord Narayana
in the Vaikuntha, the abode of Lord Narayana. She is known
as Ramaa, means bringing happiness to the mankind. She is
also known as Indira (who holds lotus or purity in the hands
or heart.) Divine Mother’s this form is normally seen serving
Sri Narayana. Lord Narayana is omnipresent. Adi Lakshmi or
Ramaa Lakshmi serves Sri Narayana is symbolic of her serving
the whole creation. Though Sri Narayana is attended by
innumerable devotees, still she personally loves to serve the
Lord. Actually mother Adi Lakshmi and Narayana are not two
different entities but one only. Many a place we see her form
sitting in the lap of Sri Narayana.
2. Dhanya Lakshmi: Dhanya means grains. This includes all
kind of purified food containing all essential vitamins,
78
minerals, protein, calcium, carbohytrade and so on. With the
grace of mother Dhanya Lakshmi one gets all essential
nutrients grains, fruits, vegetables and other foods.
3. Dhairya Lakshmi: This form of mother Lakshmi grants the
boon of infinite courage and strength. Those, who are in tune
with infinite inner power, are always bound to have victory.
Those who worship mother Dhairya Lakshmi they live and
lead a life with tremendous patience and inner stability.
4. Gaja Lakshmi: In the holy book of Srimad Bhagavata the
story of the churning of the ocean by Gods and demons is
explained in detail. Author, the Sage Vyasa writes that
Lakshmi came out of the ocean during the churning of the
ocean (Samudra Manthan). So she is known as a daughter of
the ocean. She came out of the ocean sitting on a full‐
bloomed lotus and also having lotus flowers in both hands
with two elephants by her sides, holding a beautiful vessels
filled with milk and pouring it over Sri Lakshmi. Many a time
we see Sri Lakshmi standing in the lotus and elephants are
pouring nectar over her. During the festival of the lamps or
the Deepavali along with Sri Lakshmi the Ganapati or the
Elephant God also gets worshipped; that signifies the
protection from evils as well as abundant grace and blessings
for additional prosperities!
5. Santan Lakshmi: In the family life, the children are the
greatest treasure. Those who worship this particular form of
Sri Lakshmi, known as a Santan Lakshmi, are bestowed with
the grace of mother Lakshmi and have wealth in the form of
desirable children with good health & long life.
6. Vijay Lakshmi: Vijay is victory. Vijay is to get success in all
79
undertakings and all different facets of life. Some are strong
physically but weak mentally while others are economically
rich but poor in their attitude and cannot exert any influence.
Vijay is to have all encompassing victory. Vijay is to rejoice
glory of our real nature – Vijay is to conquer the lower
nature. Vijay is the victory in external and internal wars and
of course eternal wars! Hence those, with grace of mother
Vijay Lakshmi, have victory everywhere, at all time, in all
conditions. Victory to Vijay Lakshmi !!
7. Dhana Lakshmi: Dhana is wealth. But as per Rigved’s
Purush Shukta Dhana is not only a wealth in coins and
currency. Even Sun and moon, fire and stars, rains and
nature, oceans and mountains, rivers and streams, all these
are our wealth, so are the progeny, our inner will power, our
character and our virtues. With the grace of mother Dhana
Lakshmi we will get all these in abundance.
8. Vidya Lakshmi: Vidya is education. Education is not mere
studies to receive the degrees and diplomas certificates from
the educational institutes or universities”

Garbharakshaambika ashtakam
There is a composed by Shri. Anantha Raama Dikshatar. It
can be found in Jayamangala sthothram authored by the
respected Dikshatar....The slokham is given in both Tamil and
Deva Naagari scripts..so even non‐Tamil users can benefit
from that.
86
You can chant the following mantra also: "Om Namo Devyai
Mahaa Devyai Durgaayai satatam namaha Santaana
Soukhyam dehi dehi Garbha rakshaam kurushva nah"
This should be chanted 18 times daily and 108 times on
Tuesday/ Friday evenings.
If possible, you can chant/ listen to Lalitha Sahasranaamam
with devotion everyday or at least on Fridays. Offer fresh
butter as naivedya and you should share it only with your
spouse. (This butter can be given to any child below 5 years
also apart from you two; but no other person should share
this butter).
Otherwise, simply chanting "Om Karukkaavoor
kshetrasthitha Shri Garbharakshaambike namaha" with
devotion everyday as many times as possible will be enough.
Also keep a photo of Garbarakshambikai in your room. She
will protects you. I had done the same thing when I was
pregnant.
Before going to sleep if you can pl read books on bakti or
divine stories. This will give you peaceful sleep.
May the Deity bless you with progenic happiness.

Sudarshana Ashtakam
By
Vedanta Desika
Translated By
P.R.Ramachander
(Sudarshana is the holy wheel which Lord Vishnu uses as his
chief weapon. There is a story that the daughter of Viswa
Karma, who was the architect of the God’s, was married to
the sun God and she left him because of his immense heat. It
seems Viswa Karma put Sun God in a cage and churned him
to reduce his heat. The heat was reduced and Sudarshana
Chakra, Trishoola and Shakthi, respectively the weapons of
Lord Vishnu, Shiva and Subrhamnya were born out of the
churning. Sudarshana Chakra is given the status of God by
the followers of Ramanujacharya. He being a prime devotee
is called the Chakrathazhwar. (Sage of the wheel) and
worshipped by Vaishnavas .
Venkata Natha or Vedantha Desika is one of the greatest
savants that Visishitadvaitha produced ,after Ramanuja. He
lived about 140 years after Saint Ramanuja and has written
several books. The prayers he wrote are immensely popular
among the devotees of Vishnu. Raghavabhyudhyam, one of
his greatest works has a commentary written by Appayya
Deekshitha who was a savant following Advaitha .Though
there were several great teachers in the Visishtadvaitha
devotees, Desika(Meaning teacher) is only used for denoting
90
Vedantha Desika.
This octet on Sudarshana by Vedanta Desika is a great work
of devotion. It is extremely musical and full of meaning. It is
normally recited when there is an illness at home, to get rid
of it.)

A wonderful slokha from Aananda Saagara
Stavam
I am posting a wonderful slokha from Aananda saagara
sthavam (author : Shri Neelakanta Deekshitar ‐ in the lineage
of the Great Appayya Deekshitar; Shri Neelakanta Deekshitar
was an advisor to Thirumalai naicker and this great classical
work of 108 slokhas was written under miraculous
circumstances about which I will make a detailed post if
possible in our group).
"Na gnyaayate mama hitam nitaraamupaayO
DeenOsmi Devi samayAcharanAkshamOsmi
tat tvAm ananya sharanam sharanam prapadye
MeenAkshi vishwa jananIm jananIm mamaiva"
(This is the 32nd verse in that Magnum opus).
The meaning of this is:
"I do not know what is good for me; I do not know the means
of attaining it. I am incapable of performing the prescribed
rituals as per your wonderful Samayaachaara lineage.
Therefore, I who have no other refuge take refuge in Thee, O
Meenaakshi, the Mother of the Universa ‐ and also my
MOTHER!"
You can chant this while lighting the prayer lamp. This is a
"prapatti" slokha ‐ invoking Mother Goddess as your personal
God Mother. Reciting this slokha can secure forgiveness for
possible shortcomings in pooja procedures/ rituals, and
secure the Grace of Divine Mother. After all you are declaring
mother Meenaakshi as your mother. How can a Mother
95
punish a child? A Mother is always forgiving and indulgent,
and will try to cover up the shortcomings of children and
correct them gently. So, Mother Meenaakshi will guide the
family with Her Invisible Presence when this slokha is
chanted.
I am posting this in response to the query of a member of
this group who wanted to know what are the slokhas that
can be chanted apart from the usual "shubham karoti
kalyaanam...." slokha.
Sri Subrahmanya mantra for success in any
undertaking
Sri Subrahmanya mantra for success in any undertaking
Om Saravanabhavaya Namah
This is a very powerful mantra. According to Sri Swami
Sivananda, it will give success in any undertaking and make
you glorious. It will drive off the evil influences and evil
spirits.
I just want to add one more shloka from SUBRAMANYA
BHUJANGAM
This is for the family's prosperity and harmony.

On the seat of flowers bedecked with jewels,
Built in its centre,
Explaining the essence of knowledge,

Samkshepa Sundara Kandam
(Sundara Kandam in brief.)
Thatho Ravana neethaya Seethaya shathru karsana,
123
Iyesha padamanveshtam charana charithe
padhi. 1
For finding out Sita,
Abducted by Ravana,
And who is in the custody of enemies,
The great Hanuman who kills his enemies,
Started his journey , in the path in the sky,
Frequented by Charanas.
Yadha Raghava nirmuktha sara swasana vikrama,
Gache thadwad gamishyami lankaam Ravana
palitham. 2
He said that he would go to Lanka,
As swiftly as a roaring wind,
Like an arrow sent by lord Rama.
Pravisya nagareem Lankam kapi raja hithangara,
Chakre atha padham savyam cha sathroonam sa thu
moordhani. 3
He who does well to the king of monkeys,
Entered the city fast,
By keeping his left leg first,
As if it is kept on the head of his enemies.
Pravisa nishpatham schapi prapthan uthpthann api,
Sarvamapyavakasam sa vicha chara maha
kapi. 4
That great monkey searched everywhere in that city,
By jumping up and down in various places,
124
And again and again searching in other places.
Drushta manthapuam sarva drushta ravana yoshitha,
Na seethe drusyathe sadhwi vratha jatho mama
srama. 5
He felt sad and thought,
I have seen the full harem,
And also seen all the ladies of Ravana,
But I have not been able to see Sita.
And so my effort is in vain.
Asoka vanika cheyam drusyathe yaa maha druma,
Immam abhigamishyami na heeyam vichitha
maya. 6
He saw then a forest of Asoka trees,
And thought he will also search there,
As he has not done it before.
And entered that forest.
Asoka vanikayam thu thasyam vanara pungava,
Thatho malina saveetham Rakshaseebhi sama vrithaam,
Upavasa krusam dheenam niswasanthim puna puna,
Dadarsa shukla pakshadhou Chandra rekha
mivamalaam. 7‐8
In the middle of the Asoka forest,
That monkey chief saw,
A lady wearing dirty cloths,
Surrounded by Rakshasis,
Who was famished because of absence of food,
Who was in a pitiable state,
Who was taking heavy breath again and again,
125
And who was like the first crescent after the new moon.
Thaam sameekshya visalakshi madhikam malinam krusam,
Tharkayamasa Sithethi karanou roopa
padhibhi. 9
Seeing that lady with very broad eyes,
With a famished dirty look,
He argued within him,
And decided that it was Sita.
Asya devya manasthaasmimamsthasya chaasyam
prathishtitham,
Theneyam sa cha dharmathma muhartham aapi
jeevathi. 10
The mind of this holy lady is fixed in my Lord,
And my Lords mind is fixed in this holy lady,
And that is why she is able to live at least for a second.
Evam Sitaam thadha drushtwa hrushta pavana sambhava,
Jagagama manasa Ramam prasa samsa cha tham
prabhum. 11
Becoming extremely happy,
On seeing Sita,
That son of wind God,
Mentally reached Rama,
And started praising him.
Raja Dasaradho nama radha kunjara vaajiman,
Thasya puthra priyo jyeshta sthaarathibha
nibhanana. 12
126
There was a king called Dasaratha,
Who was having a great army,
Of chariots, horses and elephants.
He had an eldest son,
Who resembled the lord of stars ,
And was very dear to him.
Ramo Nama viseshagna sreshta sarva dhanushmatham,
Thasya sathyabhi sandhasya vrudhasya vachanath pithu,
Sabharya saha cha bratha veera pravrajitho
vanam. 13
Rama was a wise man,
And was greatest among,
Those who send the arrow.
He obeying the words of his father,
Who was wedded to truth ,
And who was old.
Went to the forest,
Along with his brother and wife.
Thathsthwa marshapahrutha Janaki Ravanena thu,
Sa marga manastham devim Rama Sita maninditham,
Asasad vane mithram Sugreevam nama
vanaram. 14
That daughter of Janaka,
Was abducted by the angered Ravana.
On Ramas path in search of Sita,
He got Sugreeva who was a monkey,
As a friend in the forest.
127
Sugreevenapi sandhishta haraya kamaroopina,
Dikshu sarvasu thaam devim vichinwanthi
sahasrasa. 15
Sent by Sugreeva,
Several thousands of monkeys,
Who can assume any shape they please,
Are searching for the holy lady,
In all directions.
Asya hetho visalakshya sagaram vegavan plutha,
Yadha roopam yadha varnam yadha Lakshmim cha
nischitham,
Aasrousham Ragahavasyaham seya maasadhitha
maya. 16
Only for the sake of that broad eyed one,
Did I cross the sea fast,
And I saw her in the same way,
As Raghava had described,
In the same form, colour and beauty.
Janaki chaapi thachruthwa vismayam param gatha,
Saa dadarsa kapim thathra prasrayam priya
vadhinam. 17
Hearing this , that Janaki,
Was drowned in surprise,
And saw the monkey sitting above,
Telling those pleasing words.
Tham abraveen maha theja Hanuman Maruthathmaja,
128
Aham Ramasya sandhesad devi
dhoothasthvagatha. 18
Further told Hanuman,
That ever shining one,
: I am an emissary of Rama,
Who has brought message to you.
Vaidehi kusali ramasthwam cha kusalamabarveeth,
Lakshmanascha maha theja barthru sthe anuchara priya
19
Hey, daughter of Videha,
Rama is fine,
And he enquired about you,
And Lakshmana, who is the dear companion,
Of your husband also is fine.
Saa thayo kusalam devi nischaya narasimhayo,
Preethi samhrushta sarvamgi hanumanthamadhabraveed.
20
Hearing the news of welfare,
Of those great lion like men,
She became happy all over,
And told Hanuman as follows.
Kalyani batha Gatheyam loukeeki prathibathi maa,
Eethi jeevantha maanando naram varsha sathad api.
21
I feel that the proverb,
Even if man suffers,
For one hundred years,
129
He should continue to live,
Because, He can become,
Happy at any time.
Is surely true.
Bhooya eeva maha thejo Hanuman maaruthathmaja,
Aabraveed prasritham vaakyam Sita pratyaya kaaranath,
Rama nama ankitham chedham pasya devya anguleeyakam,
Prathyayartha thavaneetham thena datham mahathmana.
22
To encourage Sita and give her hope,
That greatly resplendent Hanuman,
Who was the son of wind God told,
Hey holy lady, be pleased to see,
This ring in which the name of Rama is written.
This has been given by him,
To give you hope,
And has been brought by me.
Graheethwa prekshamaana saa barthu kara
vibhooshanam,
Bartharam iva sampraptha Janaki mudithaa bhavath.
23
After receiving and seeing,
That hand ornament of her husband,
That daughter of Janaka,
Became as happy as,
She has got her husband himself.
Thatho vastragatham mukthwa divyam choodamanim
shubham,
130
Pradheyo Raghavayeethi Sita Hanumathe dadhou.
24
Then she took her head brooch,
Which was divine and comforting,
From her dress , where it was tied,
And gave it to Hanuman,
For giving it to Raghava.
Thathasthu Hanuman veero bhabhanja pramadavanam,
Dasoham Kosalendraya Ramasyaklishta karmana,
Na Ravana sahasram mey yudhe prathibalam bhaved,
Ardayithwa pureem Lankamabhivadya cha Maithilim,
Samrudhartho gamishyami mishatham sarva rakshasam.
25
Then Hanuman started destroying Asoka forest,
Announcing loudly as follows,
I am the servant of Lord Rama,
Who functions effortlessly,
And even thousand Ravanas,
Can never become equal to me in war.
I am going to destroy the city of Lanka,
Salute the daughter of Mithila,
And return after completing my task,
Even when all the Rakshasa are witnessing.
Veshtayanthi sma langoolam jeernai karpasakai patai,
Thailena cha abishichyadha thee agni thathrabhya
pathayath.
26
They tied on his tail worn out cloths,
131
Dipped his tail in oil and set it on fire.
Deepyamane thathasthasya Langulagre Hanumatha,
Rakshasyastha Virupakshya samsu devyasthadapriyam.
27
When the tail of Hanuman was burning,
Those Rakshasis with crooked eyes,
Informed the sad news to the holy lady Sita.
Mangalabhimukhi thasya saa thadseen maha kape,
Upathasthe Visalaakshi prayatha havya vahanam,
Yadhyasthi pathi susrusha yadyasthi charitham thapa,
Yadhi vapyekapathinthwam seetho bhava Hanumatha.
28
That well wisher of that great monkey,
Started praying to the lord of fire,
If I have served my husband properly,
If I have done all my jobs properly,
If I had been a faithful wife,
You become cool to the Hanuman.
Hanumatha vegavatha vaanarena mahathmana,
Lankapuram pradagdham thadru drena yadha.
29
That great individual who was a monkey hero,
Burnt the city of Lanka, like Lord Rudra burnt the three cities.
Evam aswasya Vaidehim Hanuman Maruthathmaja,
Gamanaya mathim kruthwa Vaidehi mabhya vadhayath,
Thatha sa kapi sardhoola swami sandarsonothsuka,
132
Aaruroha giri sreshta marishta mari mardhana.
30
After this Hanuman, the son of wind god,
Consoled the daughter of Videha,
And making preparations to depart,
Saluted the daughter of Videha.
Then that monkey warrior ,
Who is the destroyer of his enemies,
Interested in seeing his master fast,
Climbed on the top of Arishta mountain.
Nipapatha Mahendrasya Shikare Padapakule,
Drushta Sithethi vikrantha samkshepena nyavedhayath.
31
After alighting on the Mahendra mountain,
He informed the news he had in brief,
I saw Sita.
Preethimanthasthatha sarve vayu puthra purassara,
Mahendradrim parithyajyapupluvu plavagarshabha.
32
Lead by the son of Wind God,
The other monkeys whose heart was gladdened,
Left the Mahendra mountain,
Jumping and jumping.
Nipethur hari rajyasya sameepe Raghavasya cha,
Hanumamscha maha bahu pranamya sirasa thatha,
Niyatham akshatham devim Raghavasya nyavedhayath.
33
133
They all alighted in the kingdom of monkeys,
Near to the place where Rama was staying,
And then the great hero Hanuman,
Bent his head in respect and
Informed lord Raghava,
That the holy lady,
Was without blemish,
And was observing her duties.
Thou jatha aswasow raja puthrow vidhithwa thachabignam
Raghavasya pradhaya,
Devya cha aakhyatham sarva mevanupuvyaardwacha
sampoorna vayu puthra sasamsa. 34
Realizing that that the princes were consoled,
He gave Sitas head brooch to Raghava,
And told him all the words as told by the holy lady,
In that same order
Sri Rama Pattabishekam
Vasishto Vamadevascha Jabalir adha Kasyapa,
Kathyayano gowthamascha suyagno vijayasthadha,
Abhyasheemchan nara vyagram prasannena sugandhina,
Salilena sahasraksham vasavo vasava yadha.
35
The great sages like Vasishta and Vamadeva,
Jabali , Kasyapa, Kathyayana and Gowthama,
Suyagna and Vijaya,
Anointed him with sacred scented waters,
Similar to the anointing of the thousand eyed Indra,
134
Carried out by the eight Vasus.

Sanathana Dharma better known as Hinduism is one of the
greatest and finest of ancient religions. It preaches that
every individual’s aim should be Moksha which in simple
words means merger with the Ultimate truth called Brahman
and reaching a state of no re birth.
Savants and sages of the religion suggest several methods
to attain this enviable state. Of these the simplest is Bhakthi
Yoga or devotion n to God, which ultimately merges you
with God. To make this easily possible a pan theistic concept
of God is enunciated by the religion. Also the Godhead is
viewed in myriad forms so that the devotion to him can be
done in a manner closest to our heart. He is viewed by some
as a child or friend or mother or father or a cruel one who
punishes or a kind one who is merciful or even as our sweet
heart. This has resulted in varied type of prayers addressed
to his or her favourite
Form of God.
Given below are prayers in Sanskrit with translation in
English verse of prayers which a Hindu is supposed to do on
various occasions and also prayers to several Gods:‐
Stotras as soon as one wakes up:‐
A Hindu is supposed to wake uo very early in the morning
much earlier to sun rise. It is believed that the first thing you
see in the morning determines one’s day.
As soon as one wakes up see he is supposed to see his
palm and recite the following sloka:‐
Karagre vasathu Lakshmi, Karamadhye Saraswathi,
Karamoole sthitha Gowri, Prabhate Kaa Darshanam.
Lakshmi lives in the tip of my palm,
137
Saraswathi lives in its middle,
And Gowri lives at its base,
So I see my palm in the early morn.
Earth is a Goddess to Hindus. She is one of the wives of Maha
Vishnu one of the trinity of Hinduism. So it is necessary to ask
her pardon before one sets ones foot on her. This is done by
the following prayer:‐
Samudhra vasane devi, parvatha sthana mandithe,
Vishnu pathni namasthubhyam pada sparsam kshamasva
mae.
Salutations to you consort of Lord Vishnu,
Who is clothed by oceans,
And is adorned prettily by the mountains,
Pardon me mother, for setting my foot on you.
Cleanliness is a sin qua non‐to every Hindu. He does
purification of the body as well as the mind during his bath.
Purificatory bath is ultimate if it is done in the sacred waters
of some great rivers of India. The following prayers are
recited while taking bath:‐
Govindethi sada snanam Govindethi sada japam,
Govindethi sada dhyanam , sada Govinda keerthanam.
Meditate on Govinda while taking bath,
Meditate on him in your prayers,
Meditate on him while thinking of God,
And always sing his name.
Gange cha Yamune chaiva Godavari Saraswathi,
138
Narmada Sindhu Kaveri Jale asmin sannidhim kuru.
I pray you to enter,
This water meant for my bath,
Oh , holy river Ganga,
Oh, Holy river Yamuna,
Oh , Holy river Godavari,
Oh, Holy river Saraswathi,
Oh , Holy river Narmada,
Oh holy river Sindhu,
And holy river Kaveri.
Fire is one of the greatest Gods of Hinduism. He according to
them acts as a bridge between this ordinary world and the
Gods of heaven.Symbolically the lamp is lit and kept in the
house. Here is a prayer addressed to the lamp:‐
Shubham karothi kalyanam, aarogyam, dhana sampadam,
Budhi vruddhi Shatru vinasaya deepa jyothi namo nama.
Salutations and salutations,
To the holy flame of the lamp,
Which bestows on me all that is good,
Health as well as wealth,
Increase my intelligence,
And destroy all my enemies.
Thulasi or ocimum plant is venerated by every Hindu and is
invariably grown in the courtyard of every house. After
lighting up the lamp he is supposed to clean up the thulasi
plant and water it while reciting the following prayer:‐
Thulasi shree sakhi shubhe , papa haarini punyade,
139
Namasthe Naradanuthe , Namo Narayana priye.
Oh , Holy Thulasi,
Bosom friend of Lakshmi,
Destroyer of sins,
Bestower of blessings,
Salutations to thee,
Who is praised by sage Narada,
And is the darling of Lord Narayana
Then he prays to the banyan tree which is the holy tree
providing him with shade , happiness and prosperity,

Salutations to the king of trees,
Whose roots are Lord Brahma,
Whose stem is Lord Vishnu,
And whose crown is Lord Shiva.
Then He prays to Gods and nature to make the day very
great for him by reciting the following prayers:‐

He who berings light to the world,
141
He who brings heat tio the world,
He who has scorching rays,
And he who is the maker of the day,
Give me long life,

He then prays to the God to make his day peaceful by
promotong harmony of the mind, body and spirit by reciting
one of the most ancient prayers of the world:‐

Sahana navathu.Sahanou bunakthu. Saha veerya
karavavahai.
Tejaswinaa vadheedamasthu maa vidwishavahaii.
Om shanthi, shanthi, shanthi.
Let Brahmam protect the teacher‐student duo,
And also protect us,
We would work with vigour,
Let our learning be lustrous,
Let not we quarrel among ourselves,
Let there be peace, peace and peace.
He then reminds himself of the two great epics of India by
reciting the following slokas:‐

Were also killed.

And looked after the children of Kunthi.
This is in short the ancient story of Bhagawatha,
Which describes the nectar like play of Lord Krishna.

Start the shashti pooja on the shashti thithi which comes
after the full moon day (pournami) and we have to continue
doing this shashti pooja for 5 consecutive shashti
thithis..(do pooja on every shashti thiti that comes after
pournami for 5 shashtis)
on the day of pooja have head bath and light the lamp
infront of lord subramanyeswara or muruga and read the
slokas or any ashtottharam pooja..you can also read some
slokas related to nagaraja..and offer prasad and aarathi...and
during that day we have to fast can have fruits and milk but
158
not rice...and we are not supposed to sleep on the bed...no
other intimate actions with husband...
Perform Naga pooja
The following mantras have to be chanted for 21 times on
shashti thithi
Om Aaathishesha naagaayanamaha
Om Avantha nagaaya namaha
Om Vaasugiye Namaha
Om Thatcha naagaaya namaha
Om Kaarkodaka naagaaya namaha
Om Padma naagaaya namaha
Om Mahaa Padma Naagaaaya Namaha
Om Sanka naagaya namaha
Om Kuiga nagaaya namaha
The idol of snake may be gifted with new clothes, betel
leaves and other auspicious items to a Vedic Brahmin at the
sixth consecutive Shahsti Thithi pooja will overcome all
curses due to the Naga dosha or Kala Sarpa dosha.
This donation can be done by our parents or inlaws who are
in India (incase if we are not able to donate the snake idol
here out of India as i doubt if the priests here will accept the
donation of a snake idol..) however we can donate clothes
and betel leaves and haldi kum kum etc here and ask our
parents to donate them along with snake idol in India again..
(this is how i am planning)
you can also recite the below mantra for 11 times during the
pooja
159
Nava Naaga Stotra
Anantam Vasukim Sesha
Padmanbhacha Kambalam
Shankupalam Drutharastramch
Takshanam Kaaliyam Thada
Phala Sruthi
Etani nava navaami naganancha mahatmana
Sayam patenityam prathakaale visheshita
Tasya vishabhayam naasti sarvatra vijayaa bhaveth
Along with these you can also try to recite any slokas you
know for lord narasimha swamy and also nataraja swamy..as
they help to get rid of negative effect of rahu and ketu on any
couples..
Muruga or lord subramanyeswara is the giver of children and
happy married life...have faith and i heard that whoever does
this pooja will always get the desired results..as they say with
faith you can move mountains...
good luck to all the girls who are planning to do this pooja...i
pray to god that all our wishes to have a child will surely be
heard by god and he will grant us our wish...
This is my own personal experience...to unite couples and to
get the harmony b/w couples we can do sundarakanda
paraayanam it works wonders ...it did for me and am hoping
it will do good to you also...it has great power....
If you can also try saisatcharithra paarayanam...just tell shirdi
sai your problem and ask him help to fix the issues and do
the 7 days paarayanam and am sure he will do good to all of
160
us....
Just remembered few of the FENGSHUI tips i followed to
have a harmonious surrounding..stand at the doorstep of
your bedroom and see towards your right hand corner of
your bedroom keep that place free of all clutter as this is the
relationship area...put anything pink here....PINK or Silver
color....pink flowers (fresh ones) or pink candles and a
photoframe with a photo of you and your husband
together..no separate pics it should be a single photo with
both of you..(take the photo from the happy times you
had...)...if possible try to place some crystals..either white or
pink ones...
Even in the hall of your house look at that right hand corner
of the room and put a bamboo plant (which has 2 shoots
representing love and marriage) and keep it in that corner
and water it everyday..(as we are not supposed to keep any
plants or water in the bedroom I have kept it in the hall)...
if possible try to light candles once in a day or 2....let the
house have the natural candle light for sometime..also try to
put some nice aromatic incense or agarbatthi....light some
once in 3 days...to get a soft serene peaceful place...we have
to create all positive vibrations in the house....try to put
some salt in the four corners of your bedroom on one
morning and the next morning try to vaccum it away....(if its
not possible to do this..you can put a bowl of water with
some salt in it and put it in the bedroom on one evening and
the next day morning pour that water in the sink and drain it
off dont let it fall off any where in the house.....i heard salt
has the power to take off any negativity in the house....
161
if you can get....try to buy the mandarin ducks and place
them in the right hand corner of your bedroom...they have to
face each other and be together always...do not keep them
separate..always ensure that your bedroom gets enough
sunlight and also try to put some light on these mandarin
ducks..atleast once in a while..
These really worked for me..hope they work for you too...
162
