Christmas Busking
The above will take place on Friday, 14th December in Supervalu, Bunclody from 9.30am-
10.30am. Thank you to all parents who are providing lifts: if there are any parents willing to hold
the buckets please contact the school. Thank you. We look forward to hearing the children on
the day!

Christmas Card
Again this year each child will design their own Christmas Card and have it signed by everybody
in their class. Saving paper in this way continues to support our Green-School status in the area
of recycling.

Open Evening
A big thank you to all the people who came out on a cold, wet night for our Open Evening. We
hope you enjoyed it as much as we did.

STEPS Young Engineer Project


The senior room are participating in a Steps Young Engineer Project. As part of this project
they have to think like engineers, and plan and design an engineering project in the school
community. A past pupil who is a qualified engineer will come in on Thursday, 6th December to
help with their projects.
Christmas Carol Service
On Sunday, December 16th there will be a Carol Service in the church at 7.00pm. We are
delighted that the children from our school have been invited to perform on the night, along
with children from Marshalstown School and the local adult choirs. We are practicing at the
moment and we hope that as many of the children as possible will be able to attend on the night.

Parents Association News and Notices


Christmas raffle cards were distributed in mid-November. The draw will take place on Sunday,
16th December. Please send in your raffle cards on or before Wednesday, 12th December. We
would like to say a big thank you for all the items donated for the Christmas Hampers. If anyone
has anything else please have them in by Wednesday, 12th December.
Copper Coin Collection
We continue to collect 2c and 1c coins that have gone out of circulation. If you have any at
home, please bring them into the school, where they can be counted and used for the school
funds.

Christmas Concert
This years Christmas Concert will take place on Wednesday, 19th December in the hall. The
Junior and Senior room will each perform a play. The Junior room will perform “Santa’s Cookie
Problem” and the Senior room will perform “The Wizard of Oz”. There will be two performances
of the concert on that day; The first performance will be at 2.00pm in the afternoon and the
second will be at 7.00pm that night. We encourage as many parents/siblings as possible to come
to the afternoon performance to ensure there is adequate space in the hall for the evening
performance. The children are working very hard in preparation for our Christmas
Concert and we thank them for their efforts and in advance we thank you the parents and the
wider community for your support. Tickets costing €5/€3 will be on sale in the school office on
Monday, Wednesday and Fridays. If there are tickets left they will be for sale on the door on
the night.

Christmas Crafts
The children in both classrooms will be involved in making Christmas Crafts on Thursday, 20th
December at 1.00pm. If there are any parents who would like to help on the day please contact
the school as your help would be very much appreciated. Thank you for your cooperation.

Special Visitor
A special visitor will be coming to the school on Thursday, 20th December at 11am to see all the
boys and girls. We look forward to a fun-filled morning. If younger siblings would like to come
along, they will be very welcome.

Christmas ‘No Uniform Day’


A Christmas No Uniform Day will take place on Thursday 20th December also. When children
can wear something festive e.g. a Christmas Jumper, T-shirt, Santa hat etc. Each child is asked
to pay €2. This is a Parents’ Association fundraiser and we thank you for your support.

Christmas Holidays
The school will close at 12 noon on Friday, 21st December and reopen on Monday, 7th January
2019. We wish each and every one of you a happy, joyful and peaceful Christmas. Every best
wish for the New Year.
Recycled Decoration Competition
Winners: Senior Infants Jack Kelly-Doyle, First Class Luke Byrne, Second Class Nicole Byrne,
Third/Fourth Class Emelia Byrne, Fifth /Sixth Class Ava Byrne.
