Keyboard and markdown shortcuts
Become a Notion pro with our keyboard shortcuts!

Main 🚕
Press cmd/ctrl + shift + n to create a new page (in the Mac/Windows app).

Press cmd/ctrl + p to quickly jump to a page (Quick Find).

Press cmd/ctrl + [ to go back.

Press cmd/ctrl + ] to go forward.

Press cmd/ctrl + u to go up to the parent page.

Press cmd/ctrl + shift + l to toggle dark mode.

Press cmd/ctrl + \ to toggle the sidebar (in the Mac/Windows app).

Markdown-Style Transformations
While typing:

Wrap your text with ** to bold.

Wrap your text with * to italicize.

Wrap your text with ` to create inline code . (That's the one on the left of "1").

Wrap your text with ~ to strikethrough.

At the beginning of an empty Text block, try these shortcuts:

Type * , - , or + to followed by a space create a Bulleted List.

Type [] to create a Todo. (There's no space in between.)

Type 1. followed by a space to create a Numbered List.

Type # followed by a space to create a Header.

Type ## followed by a space to create a Sub Header.

Type > followed by a space to create a Toggle List.

Type " followed by a space to create a Quote Block.

Content Creation & Editing 🐣

Press enter to insert text.

Press cmd/ctrl + shift + m to create a comment.

Type - - - (three dashes in a row) to create a divider.

With text selected, use cmd/ctrl + b to bold text.

With text selected, use cmd/ctrl + i to italicize text.

With text selected, use cmd/ctrl + shift + s to apply strikethrough.

With text selected, use cmd/ctrl + k to add a link.

With text selected, use cmd/ctrl + e to create inline code.

Press cmd + option + 0 (Mac) or ctrl + shift + 0 (Windows, Linux) to create text.

Press cmd + option + 1 (Mac) or ctrl + shift + 1 (Windows, Linux) to create a

header.

Press cmd + option + 2 (Mac) or ctrl + shift + 2 (Windows, Linux) to create a sub-
header.

Press cmd + option + 3 (Mac) or ctrl + shift + 3 (Windows, Linux) to create a page.

Press cmd + option + 4 (Mac) or ctrl + shift + 4 (Windows, Linux) to create a to-
do.

Press cmd + option + 5 (Mac) or ctrl + shift + 5 (Windows, Linux) to create a

bulleted list.

Press cmd + option + 6 (Mac) or ctrl + shift + 6 (Windows, Linux) to create a

numbered list.

Press cmd + option + 7 (Mac) or ctrl + shift + 7 (Windows, Linux) to create a

toggle list.

Press cmd + option + 8 (Mac) or ctrl + shift + 8 (Windows, Linux) to create a code
block.

Press cmd + option + 9 (Mac) or ctrl + shift + 9 (Windows, Linux) to create a

quote block.

While Dragging 🐌
Hold down the option/alt key to duplicate.

While Typing 🐔
Press escape to select the block you are editing.

Press tab to indent. This will insert the block into the previous block.

Press shift + tab to un-indent.

While Blocks are Selected 🐳

Use cmd/ctrl + enter to activate buttons/pages and checks/un-check checkboxes, toggle
to-dos, or enter full screen on embeds/images.

Press cmd/ctrl + shift + up/down arrow keys to move selection up or down

Press cmd/ctrl + shift + left/right arrow keys to expand the selection up or

down.

Use cmd/ctrl + shift + enter to open a page in a new tab.

Press cmd/ctrl + shift + r to rename the current selection.

Press space while on an image to enter full screen.

Use the arrow keys to change the selection.

Hold down shift + up/down arrow to expand the selection up or down by one block.

Press cmd/ctrl + A to select all blocks in the page.

Use cmd + shift + click on Mac, and option + shift + click on Windows, to
toggle selection of a block.

Use shift + click to select another block and all blocks in-between.

Press escape to clear the selected blocks.

Press backspace or delete to delete the selected blocks.

Press cmd/ctrl + D to duplicate the blocks you have selected.

Press enter to edit the block you have selected. If the block has no text, something else might
happen. For example, pressing enter on a Page block will navigate to the Page.

When using our desktop app, cmd/ctrl + L will copy the link to the Notion page you are
on.
