Guild of English Majors

August 8, 2013

Minutes of Meeting:

August 8, 2013, in room 101, at exactly 2:00 in the afternoon, the officers of
GEM, together with the adviser professor Lolita Mabazza, had a meeting. The present
attendees were: President John Kenneth Oro, V. President Internal Gladys Viason, V.
President External Sonny Abadiano, Secretary Alvin Cabañez, Assistant Secretary
Shiela Casabuena, P.I.O. Peter Buenaflor, P.I.O. Kasandra Punay, Business Manager
Louien Cutamora 4th year representatives Glen Samudio and Jonathan Mortiga, 3 rd year
representative Jozell Monte, and Mr. Bo Samar. The officers from the 2 nd year morning
English major were not able to attend the meeting because they had their midterm
examinations.

The first agenda of the meeting is about the GEM shirt. According to Mr. Bo
Samar, the GEM shirt could be availed now at the price of P150.00. After talking about
its price, it then followed by the decision of its design, professor Lolita Mabazza called
on Gogie to illustrate the desired design of some suggesters, even the adviser professor
Lolita Mabazza suggested a particular design. After a lot of suggestion of its design, it
came out to have a final decision, the color of the GEM which is lilac must not be
changed because according to professor Lolita, lilac is the identified color of the
organization even before. The illustration of the GEM shirt is seen below:
When it was done about the shirt’s design, professor Lolita commanded Mr. Bo
Samar to canvass downtown for a cheaper price of the said shirt. And then, because of
the majority, the GEM shirts should be worn during Thursdays. Also, as being talked
about, students who wish to avail the GEM shirt must provide waivers to let the parents
know the exact amount to be paid for the shirt.

The next agenda was about the poetry interpretation, all colleges can join the
said contest except for the Education because that would be biased if Education would
join. Each college must have at least one group (at least ten persons in a group) to
represent their college they belong, and only freshmen, sophomores and juniors could
join it. The posting of the announcement of the said contest must be done early so that
the groups who would join could prepare for it. September 25, 2013 was the tentative
date to do the contest. The time duration of each performance is a 5 minute preparation
time and 7-10 minutes for the performance of each group. The panel of judges for the
contest would come from the English department of each college who would have a
group representative. The said contest would have an entrance fee of P30.00, but for
that, attendees would have their certificates as our appreciation for their attendance.
With regards to the certificate, the spaces provided for the names of the attendees
would be left empty, and let the attendees write their names on it. Then, to make this
plan possible, some factors must be considered:

1. Enough funds, so each English major of all levels and sections should
contribute P20.00 each month.
2. The availability of the TCU auditorium.
3. Formal invitation for the judges that would come from the other
colleges.

The next agenda was about the bulletin board of the organization, the adviser
Lolita Mabazza said that the past administration made a request for the said bulletin
board to the municipality, but the request was not granted until now. The president
Kenneth Oro then made a decision to provide a bulletin board through the funds that
would be contributed monthly. Having an organizational bulletin board is very
substantial, announcements and further plans must always be posted so that the
members would always be updated and informed.

The next meeting would be after Bo had canvassed about the GEM shirt.
