Welcome Statement

Recently many experts believe that people with disabilities can be productive people.

Special Education targets to teach students the effective approaches to deal with individuals who

have disabilities. It gives the students a chance to know how they improve education,

productivity, and lifespan for students who have disabilities (George Mason University, 2018).

The purpose of this current online portfolio is to demonstrate the style of academic

writing and research method in Special Education by analysis specific work in my field. This

page supports students who are international and have desire to study Special Education. It gives

them the opportunity to have an idea about this field in general.

The portfolio offers varied projects that analyze in the field of Special Education.

Firstly, an article discusses a professor, who is Dr. Sheri Berkeley, in Special Education. She has

prominent articles and activities in the field. This article analyzes her resume, explains her

academic writing, and identifies her interests. Secondly, an article describes the academic journal

in the field. In addition, it presents its impact factor, requirements, and types of article it accepts.

It is a top journal in Special Education. Thirdly, an article analyzes a journal article. I examine

the introduction section, structure of article, and rhetorical elements. Moreover, this article taught

me how the article in my filed presents previous studies and compares them with current study.

Fourthly, an article that analyzes the same journal article, but it focusses on its language, and

types of grammar that uses. In the journal article analysis and language article analysis, I depend
on Swales and Feak’s book (2012) which is “Academic Writing for Graduate Students” (Swales

& Feak, 2012).

This portfolio presents a brief summary of academic work in the field. It is a great chance

for future students to show these works before they start studying. It will assist them to know the

level of assignments that will be required from them in future. Also, this portfolio encourages

them to have general ideas about the Special Education field.
