The Effects of Advertisements

Outline

I. Introduction

A. Thesis

In the 2014 Chevrolet Commercial entitled, “Maddie”, the company utilizes a

female protagonist and her dog to evoke emotions upon their target audience and

as a result uses Aristotle’s rhetorical devices pathos, ethos, then logos.

Additionally, this commercial showcases themes of marxism while also hinting the

importance of critical theory in the media. As a result, this shows how people are

gullible to what they are being presented in advertisements. This also shows how

idealizing certain lifestyles tends to exclude people of color, specifically the black

community.

B. Roles/Arguments

How the Chevy commercial conveys its audience to buy their vehicle through the

use of Aristotle's rhetorical device of pathos, ethos, then logos. The commercial

also has a hidden meaning of marxism and critical race theory subject to marketing
