Abstract
This composition and media project were conducted for the purpose of examining the

relationships between theories and lenses in the E*Trade Commercial, “This is Getting Really

Old.” In this commercial, ethos is the proved to be the most effective, pathos the second, while

logos is the least effective; The commercial also uses the, “Slippery slope,” fallacy to its

advantage to draw awareness towards the public’s treatment of elderly individuals. Through the

Marxist lens, the E*Trade commercial exhibits ways in which the bourgeoise exploit the older

aged proletariat class by keeping them in work for financial benefits. Nonetheless, through a

disability studies lens, the commercial demonstrates the capabilities of older and disabled

individuals within the work place, whilst posing a gray area of keeping older individuals with

disabilities in these fields. Moreover, the relationships between the rhetoric within the

commercial tied in with both the Marxist and Disability studies lenses. This research was

constructed by utilizing a variety of tools such as PowerPoint, Moovly, and Powtoons.

PowerPoint was utilized for the main core of the argument being analyzed within the

presentation of the material. Powtoons was mainly utilized to bring in lively interaction and

smooth over the transitions between the PowerPoint slides that contained the bulk of the research

and evidence. Finally, Moovly was an online movie editing program used to add background

music, visual effects, and compile the tools utilized together within one form of media. Moovly

was also utilized for all the compiled research to be viewed by others in an accessible form. This

subject matter from the project was performed in order to examine some of the intentional and

unintentional rhetoric and lenses that are common throughout commercials.
