MULTICULTURAL LESSON PLAN FORMAT

Student: _____Kennedy Tate______________________

Subject/Concepts: _Mathematics_______________________
Grade Level: _9th Grade (Algebra 1) __

1. Standards: Students will be able to understand that polynomials form a system

analogous to the integers, namely, they are closed under the operation of addition,
subtraction, and multiplication: add, subtract, multiply, and factor polynomials
o Observable objective: SWBAT factor polynomials with different styles
(FOIL, “X” METHOD, CRISS CROSS METHOD ‘Chinese method’)
 Multicultural goal: Develop a positive attitude toward our own and others cultural
background
o Observable Objective: Know and be able to do factors in Chinese and
American
 Auditory-Visual Kinesthetic learning styles: Auditory will be used when I am
talking about the steps that need to play out for each one. Visual will be
conducted when I show the entire class how to do each method. Kinesthetic will
be when I have them practice each method on their own.
 Gardner’s Intelligence:

2. Materials: Pencil, scratch paper, handout,

3. Instruction – learning Process:

 Do First: The first thing I will do is have them do a warm-up from last class (which
was multiplying) then I will announce that we will be learning different ways to
factor a polynomial.
 Mini-lesson: This where I would start teaching how to factor, first using the FOIL
method, I would show them while I am talking, so I can get every student’s learning
style. I would of course end with using the Criss Cross method, showing a video for
the criss cross method.
 Guided Practice: After each time, I show them a method, we will do one together
and one will be done separately with little help from me, both will be from the
worksheet handout, that I have provided.
 Independent Practice: The handout that I will have provided will have questions
enough to do on their own. It will have about 20 questions, and the directions will be
something like using the Foil method, the X method or the criss cross method. Then
the last 5 question will be to pick the method they like best to solve the equations.
 Exit Slip: The exit slip will have 2 questions with it, one will be the criss cross
method, and the other will be the standard method, FOIL.

5. Reflection: The students will know how to effectively factor a polynomial 3 different
ways, and respect each use of the equation. Though the students could have a bit more
culture inputted but that will improve over time. I feel like the students would walk away
from this class knowing how to factor with at least one way.
