Reflection on Practice 
Overview of the lesson: Lesson started with the teacher reviewing the lesson’s objective with the
students which was for students to be able to solve repetitive addition. She continued by telling
the students a story. Bright and colorful slides were used to model addition using repetitive
numbers. Some students were called to the board to solve some problems. Students supported
each other by clapping when they provided the correct answers and a behavior management
system was used to encourage proper behavior. Various signs were used to inform students of
the classroom’s expectation. Students appear to have understood when the “Be Quiet” sign is up,
they needed to focus on the teacher.
Students work in groups to create arrays of objects of similar numbers using the materials they
were given.
Areas for development: Lesson may have been too teacher centered. The focus was on the
teacher for the entire class. Students worked in groups for approximately 5 minutes and the work
did not pose any level of challenges to the students. Lesson plan stated that activity number one
was to be differentiated based on students’ level. However, only the quantity of items to be
placed into groups were changed for the different level.
Although the lesson was modeled, however, it did not address the meaning of “repetition
addition”. In addition, the modeling did not show any strategies to use to solve, for examples,
10+10+10. They appeared to have already know the questions they were asked to solve. Skip
count was discussed at the end of the lesson
