Repeated addition Adding the same number again and again in

order to find the answer.

Students’ Prior Knowledge:

Addition and subtraction
Counting by 2s, 5s and 10s
Possible Problems and Misconceptions:

1- Struggling with adding the numbers more than once, for example a student doesn’t know how to add
3+3+3=.

2- Having problem of sharing the materials.

3- If some students misbehave during the lesson.

Solutions:

1- The student teacher will remind the students to use the number lines they have on their team table and
explain to them how to add more than one time.
2- The teacher will remind the students that they have to share with their team or group.

3- The teacher will remind them about the classroom rules and she will do some strategies that they know

Lesson Schedule

Repeated addition
Student language:
Repeated addition

Engage (warm up, review prior knowledge): 3-5 minutes

At the beginning of the lesson, the student teacher will say “Today we are going to learn about repeated
addition”. The ST will introduce the lesson by asking some students to take some various things and present
how to repeat adding the same number to add equal groups.

For example, she will ask three students and each of them will take 2 materials such as 2 pencil cases, 2 rings,
and 2 papers. She will ask the students how many things their classmates have and how they knew it or how
they add?

Then, she will explain and write how did they add many repeated numbers together and remind them that’s is a
repeated addition.
Core (introduce and practice new concepts & procedures): 35 minutes

The student teacher will explain the concept of repeated addition to the students’ math book. She will use the
data show to present page 127. On that page, she will use cubes to explain how to add 2 4 times and draw the
cubes in the wind turbines as well. After that, she will write down the wind turbines picture 2+2+2+2=__ and
ask the students to write it in their books.

The students will complete page 128 and page 129 individually depends on their level, but the ST will observe
them and give feedback about their work.

• Approaching Level Guide students through the exercises in On My Own on page 128.

• On Level Complete the exercises independently on page 128.

• Beyond Level Complete the exercises independently. She will ask them to complete page 128 and page 129.

When they finish with their textbooks, the ST will ask them to clean up and close their books.
Then she will provide some different activities which as per their levels. The students will use manipulatives as
cubes and base ten. Also, they will use stickers and small blank papers to show how they can repeat addition for
equal groups to find the total. While that the ST will go around and help the students if needed.
Close (wrap up, discussion, brief review activity or assessment): 5-6 minutes
The ST will provide small worksheets to assess the student’s understanding\learning. She will ask them to work
individually to solve the addition problems they have. There are different worksheets as per the students’
levels.
These are the worksheets that she will use
