I introduce myself as a final year student of the undergraduate program in

Computer Science and Engineering at International Institute of Information Technology –

Hyderabad (IIIT - Hyd).

As a student in the final year of undergraduate study for a Bachelor of Technology

degree in Computer Science & Engineering at International Institute of Information
Technology, I look to graduate study to enhance my knowledge and skills and make
contribution to my areas of interest.

Motivation for graduation:

Having studied at an institute where emphasis is laid on research, I

developed a strong liking towards research and development. My research interests
include Artificial Intelligence (Machine Learning), Natural Language Processing and
Data Mining. (I strongly feel that I can contribute my part to these fields). Hence, I wish
to continue my work done at this institute and make some valuable contribution to these
developing fields of research. I believe it will also serve to give direction to my goal of a
career as a research professional at an academic or commercial, research-oriented
organisation.

Academic Background and Research Interests:

In my undergraduate studies, I have benefited from the breadth of IIIT’s syllabi

content that has given me a comprehensive exposure to the core areas of Computer
Science and a strong conceptual understanding of the same.

Over the past two years, I have developed an interest in the areas of Machine
Learning and Data Mining. My interest in these fields is reflected in the courses I have
elected during my study at IIIT. I took “Artificial Intelligence” in 4th semester and
followed it up with a course in “Natural Language Processing” in 5th semester. I took
“Database Management Systems” in 4th semester and I am following it up with “Data
Mining and Data Warehousing” and “Web Data and Knowledge management” in 7th
semester.

My Final year project : “Exploring The Effect Of Transitive Similarity On The

Performance Of Item Based Collaborative Filtering for Recommendation Systems” is in
the field of data mining.

Work Experience:

Worked as an intern in Orillion India Ltd.(summer 2001)

Why I chose Indiana University:

Work done in the field of interest:

Courses taken:

1. Artificial Intelligence
2. Natural Language Processing

Projects Done:

1. Knowledge representation of the real world actions using “conceptual

graphs”.
2. Information extraction from Resumes.
3. Linux Help System for novice Linux users.
4. “Exploring the effect of transitive similarities on the performance of
Recommendation systems using item-based collaborative filtering.”
