Abstract

This paper explains the various types of species that are currently in our environment located in

New Zealand. Just for example the types of animals living in our environment is the new species

St. Johns bat, yellow-eyed penguin, stoat, and more. These articles extend the information on

what types of species are living in the New Zealand environment and which ones are prey or

predators. The article will not just be going over the animals, but it will also go over the plants

there and how they contribute to the environment. The weather and temperature are also

important to an environment and the articles also go over that as well. The soils of the hotspot in

New Zealand are also extended on in the articles.

Ecology of New Zealand

New Zealand has a unique and rich range of plants, animals, and fungi. There are some

animal species from reptiles to mammals and birds to fish. The plants come in large varieties as

well. Some of the plants in New Zealand are kauri, nikau palm, and way more. Soils are loamy

and soft for digging and burrowing. They also contribute to the plants for easily getting

or absorbing water and what is needed for phases like photosynthesis and more. There are other

biotic and abiotic factors that contribute to separate parts of the ecosystem and as a whole.

HOW ABIOTIC FACTORS AFFECT THE ECOSYSTEM

Some abiotic factors for the ecosystem are the sun, soil, and weather. I think these

three abiotic factors contribute to a large part of the ecosystem in New Zealand. The weather is

humid because the weather is mostly raining. The sun will help contribute to the ecosystem for

the plants and the water cycle. The sun also helps with plants for processes like photosynthesis.

Rain will help the plants in getting more energy and food. The ecosystem is healthy and is

maintained and balanced. Adaptations for plants are the leaves for run-off water. Also, long roots

to absorb more water for energy.

HOW BIOTIC FACTORS AFFECT THE ECOSYSTEM

The biotic factors are animals with labels like predators and prey within an ecosystem. There

is also competition with all these organisms in the ecosystem. The competition is where there are

limited resources and essentials like water, food, etc. Remember there are also food chains that

play a big part in the ecosystem. Now let’s talk about the predators and prey. This is also a part

of the food chains. Only one is on top and one is on the bottom. The strongest is on top and the

things that most things consume are near the bottom.

HOW ECOLOGY AFFECTS OUR LIVES

All in all, plants are very important in lives in the ecosystem and out of the ecosystem as well.

It helps both our lives and lives in ecosystems is that plants provide oxygen for us and animals.

We provide carbon dioxide for plants. Without us plants cannot survive. Without plants we

cannot survive. It is a cycle that everything depends on to live.
