How have I developed this competency during this course or professional seminar/field experience?

One
of my philosophies of education is to value multiculturalism. I believe that being conscious of this topic will create a positive classroom
environment
for students. Also when appreciating the diversity in the classroom, I am being open-minded and giving social acceptance to
    differences of others
the

In  order to promote an environment of acceptance, I have to respect cultural diversity. I was put in a case where there was a Chinese

student in the first grade class who couldn’t speak English or French. I felt like it was my role to let the child feel included in the classroom
she was unable to interact and communicate with others. I encouraged her every time to speak with others, even if it is with hand
since

gestures, and made sure that all students would include her in. The only way to communicate with others would be by using Google

translate; I enjoyed listening to her speaking mandarin when explaining something.

I feel like this experience made me realize that the language barrier is not an excuse for not accepting a student into the classroom. I

appreciate the teacher's effort and dedication to give this student her education.

I would have personally done the same thing. I would also ask the school to provide an aide who speaks the mother tongue of the child.

Coming from a Lebanese background, I appreciate and love my culture. Being Lebanese made me appreciate the meaning of family, joy,

and life. In the sixth grade class, I was able to know all students' ethnicities and languages they spoke. I was surprised and appreciated the

diversity present in the classroom. What made us all connected at the end is that we all shared our Canadian values. I'm truly proud to be

Canadian/Lebanese.

I  enjoy listening to different viewpoints of each child and would love to create a multicultural day to learn more about each culture. Students
will also develop, recognize and construct their identity and learn how to accept others.
