A. Attendance:

Attendance will be taken at the beginning of class. If you arrive late, be sure to see
me immediately after class to be marked in for the day.

B. Personal Case Analysis:

You will be required to complete and submit on Moodle as an assignment, a

personal case analysis using the Modified Harvard Case Study Approach, per the
separate guide provided on Moodle. Each step of the case study process will be
explained and discussed on a weekly basis to help you prepare for this project.

Submit this assignment as either a Word document or RTF, and meet all of the steps
specified within the appended Modified Harvard Case Study Guide, except for Steps
9 and 10. Note that this is not a creative writing assignment – pay close attention to
the specific instructions listed in the document: Modified Harvard Case Study
Guide, provide on Moodle under Course Resources.

It is my hope that you take this opportunity to engage in a meaningful and sincere
effort to attack a real problem or challenge, which you are currently facing in your
life.

In addition to the Modified Harvard Case Study Guide, you are also encouraged to
view the brief PPT tutorial that applies the case process to a personal situation,
available on Moodle.

C. Weekly Quizzes:
You will have an online quiz each week on the chapter we are studying, due by
Sunday night at midnight. You may take the quiz up to (3) times to achieve a higher
score. Full quiz feedback will be provided only when the quiz closes, after the
Sunday deadline.

Important Note: Quizzes will not be reopened. You are also encouraged to
review all your quiz results prior to taking the midterm and final exams.

D. Midterm Exam:
The midterm exam will be objective-style, similar in format and difficulty level to the
weekly quizzes. The exam will be deployed either in class or online and cover
weeks 1-7.

E. Final Exam:
The final exam will be similar to the midterm exam except that it will cover chapters
from weeks 8-14.
Important Note: Make-up exams will only be allowed in rare circumstances
and only by prior arrangement with your instructor of at least 24 hrs. before
the start of the scheduled exam.

F. Movie Essay:

Watch any of the recommended movies (a list has been provided up on Moodle) or
seek pre-approval for another movie of your choice. Please make arrangements to
rent or borrow one of these movies to view in sufficient time prior to the Week 9
deadline

As you are watching the movie, look for examples that relate to concepts and
terminology from your textbook. The purpose of the paper will be to prove to me that
you understand management concepts and terminology by the way you integrate
them into your paper. You are also free to be creative in how you weave the material
from the course into the discussion of the movie and similar situations from your own
life or other situations that you are aware of.

Your paper needs to be at least a two page word-processed paper, with 1" margins
all around in which terms and concepts from the chapter are bolded within your
explanations of how various examples from the movie are tied into the study of
Management.

In terms of format, I prefer 1.5" line spacing, block style papers that have no indents
and your leaving the right edge ragged. Please just skip a space between
paragraphs. No cover page is required. Not following my formatting guidelines will
result in a grade reduction of at least 10 points.

A paper that meets the above length, integration and formatting requirements can
expect to be grades as a "B". For a further example, to achieve an "A" you will need
to write a paper that is at least 3.5 pages long that is very well written with
appropriate key term integration.

Within the context of the paper, you are also free to discuss your own personal
situation and compare and contrast it to the situation of the central characters, as it
relates to any human resource-related issues from the chapters covered so far in
your textbook.

Late work will be accepted on this assignment for (5) points off for each day
submitted late.

G. Team Organizational Case Analysis

You will also prepare a case based on an assigned organization with a team of students
from class. First, you practiced the method on a personal situation, now it’s time to apply
the methodology to an organizational setting. In other words, you will perform your SWOT
analysis (and each of the other steps of the Harvard Case Study method) and applying it to
the organization you choose.

I will be looking for you to conduct research both using search engines (I suggest Google)
and also using a publication database via the college’s online library resources. Note: you
can reach many of the publication databases off campus with your bar-coded student ID –
if you have difficulty, contact a reference librarian. As a rough estimate, I would suggest
somewhere between 20 and 40 total sources from a variety of publications. This is very
quick and easy to achieve using the publication database (link provided on Moodle).

Make sure to include a bibliography with your case study in order to get full credit for your
research. If you need further assistance, contact a Cape Cod Community College
reference librarian or a reference librarian from your local library for more tips—they are the
experts and they are there to assist you.

Written case analyses will be evaluated based on the criteria appended, in accordance
with the modified Harvard Case Study Method. The individual components of this
approach will be thoroughly explained in class. The same requirements regarding format,
etc. for homework above pertain to your written case analysis.

Strictly adhere to the procedures identified in your Modified Harvard Case Study Guide.
Unlike the movie essay, this assignment is not a creative essay. Your written case analysis
report will be uploaded to Moodle, one per team as either a Word doc or PDF file.

Important Note: Late will work will not be accepted for the team project – be
sure to have a contingency plan!
