WEEK 6:

Class:​​ 4th Grade General Music (1st Class)

Goals/Objectives:
I can sing “Farewell” with accurate pitches.
I can improvise a melody with 3 notes on the recorder .
I can explain what “improvisation” means.

4.2 #1 - The student will sing a varied repertoire of songs alone and with others,
including singing with a clear tone quality and correct intonation.
4.6 #1 - The student will create music by improvising melodies and rhythms, using a
variety of sound sources.

Greet students!

Solidify “Farewell:” 4.2 #1


● Sing Farewell on English text
● Break down into two groups and have students echo.
● Add second part
● Break into two groups and have students echo.

Recorder Improv:
● Echo on three notes (A,G,E)
● Ask for a conversation, “What word do we use to describe this?”
● Improv back.
● Ask for volunteers. 4.6 #1

Sectionals:
● Split into groups, so students can work along with others who
are at their level and scaffold.

I can decode 4 beat rhythms with quarter rests, quarter, and eighth notes.

3.1 #1 - The student will read and notate music, including identifying written melodic
movement as step, leap, or repeat.
3.1 #3 - The student will read and notate music, including using traditional notation to
write melodies on the treble staff.
3.6 #5 - The student will respond to music with movement by performing dances and
other music activities from a variety of cultures.

1.9 #4 - The student will create music by composing simple rhythmic patterns, using
traditional or nontraditional notation.

Dynamics Game: 1.2 #3


● Teacher explains game to students and asks one student to sit
in the middle with their eyes closed.
● Teacher hides an object in the classroom and asks the student
to open their eyes.
● The student then tries to find the object. Other students help by
humming louder when they get closer to the object.

Puzzle Pieces:
● Students find partners, each group gets a set of puzzle pieces. 1.1 #2
● Teacher gives 4 beat examples to decode.
● Teacher asks students to create their own 4 beat rhythm.
● Teacher goes around asking students to chant their rhythm for 1.9 #4
the class.

I can pat a steady beat.

K.2 #3 - The student will investigate various uses of the voice by demonstrating
expressive qualities of music, including loud/soft and fast/slow.
K.3 #1 - The student will sing a variety of songs of limited range alone and with others,
including singing two-pitch (sol, mi) songs, using echo and ensemble singing.
K.6 #1 - The student will demonstrate a steady beat, using body percussion,
instruments, and voice.

● Teacher explains game to students and asks one student to sit K.2 #3
in the middle with their eyes closed.
● Teacher hides an object in the classroom and asks the student
to open their eyes.
● The student then tries to find the object. Other students help by
humming louder when they get closer to the object.

Pass Game:
● Teacher asks students to find a steady beat. K.6 #1
● Teacher then chants, “Take, Pass,” Students echo
● Teacher grabs one object and asks students to say “take, pass”
on their own when the object comes around to them.
● Teacher and students keep steady beat while passing object.

*Because there are no SOL Standards for students below Kindergarten, I am using Kindergarten SOL
Standards.
