Dear Dr Bruce,

Over the course of this semester, I have learned and improved my ability to
communicate my points in a more concise manner. The book on the principles of design
have been a great improvement to my abilities to be able to construct coherent
sentences that are able to be informative and to the point. The student learning
outcomes or (SLO’s) have been used as a guideline for us students to focus on specific
parts of rhetoric and to help is improve in those areas. In the portfolio I have made I
have chosen 3 documents that satisfy all of the SLO’s and I believe are good
illustrations of how I have improved and learned over the semester.

The first document I chose to include in my portfolio was my revised resume. The
SLO that is satisfied by my revised resume is persuasion and rhetorical focus (SLO 1
and 3 ) The SlO that this document satisfies is SlO 3 which is is persuasion. The way I
should persuisian in this document was I had to put in key selling points to the people
that would be looking over my resume. SlO 1 was based on rhetorical focus. My
audience for this document is simulated interview, so I chose to display skills and
accomplishments that I felt matched the situation I was applying for which was a
background in computer knowledge the ability to repair computers and a good
understanding of how to disassemble computers and other household electronics.

The Next document I chose to include in my portfolio was my team charter, which
itself satisfies The SLOS ( 2,4 and 5 ). SLO 2 is about ethical citations, the group
charter has citations that we used to model our disciplinary policy. The next SLO that is
satisfied is SLO 4, this is the organizational SLO. The team charter is a perfect example
of how this is done. Everything that was done is laid out in a easy to follow and
understand manner that was modeled by using the principles of design. The way we as
a team organized and designed our charter was made with the thought that it must be
easy to follow and understand by any one reading it. The next SLO this document
satisfies is language and design by being neutral in language and accommodating to
any one by not using technical terms.

The final document that I chose to use was a peer revision that satisfies SLO (6)
which is collaboration. The choice to include this document was because I gave
constructive criticism to a team by giving them advice on their team charter and about
the various things they needed to include in it to make it better like format of the charter
and the abstract. The changes I suggested were to switch it to memo format and lower
the amount of words needed for the abstract so it would fit the requirements.
Sincerely, Jose Mercado
