the mats learning the fine
arts of rolls and grappling.
“It’s a multi-purpose
room that never was
intended to have wres-
tling,” Edgeman said.
“Who knows where it’ll be
15 years down the road.”
Cashion is embarking on
its first ever season of high
school wrestling this year.
Thanks to Edgeman
and a loyal band of inter-
ested parents and back-
ers, wrestling has come to
town.
“You are talking about
a town that’s never had a
wrestling culture,” Edge-
man said. “So we knew
getting this going was
going to be an uphill bat-
tle.”

OU’s Nichols wins NCAA
Inspiration Award
Oklahoma gymnast
Maggie Nichols has been
named as the winner of
the 2018 NCAA Inspiration
Award.
Nichols is one of hun-
dreds of athletes who
have spoken out over the
past year about the abuse
suffered at the hands of
former USA Gymnastics
and Michigan State team
doctor, Larry Nassar.
Nassar was sentenced in
January to up to 175 years
in prison in January for
sexually abusing more than
150 girls and women.
Nichols was the first
gymnast to come forward
about the sexual abuse
inflicted by Nassar. The
abuse began when she was
15 years old, when she was
a rising star on the United
States national team,
aiming for a spot at the
Olympics.
Nichols, a Little Canada,
Minnesota native will
receive her award on
Jan. 23 at the annual
NCAA Honors Dinner as
part of the NCAA Conven-
tion in Orlando, Florida.
Nichols is the second
winner from Oklahoma,
joining 2005 honoree
Michelle Thomas.
