CCSS Standards: Rounding part 2.

Students will be able to round whole numbers to the nearest ten and hundred using a number
line as a tool.

Students will be able to round whole numbers to the nearest thousand and ten thousand by
using the rounding cluster strategy.

Students’ Prior Knowledge:


Some students have knowledge about rounding numbers but they confuse to choose the right
place value.

Some students have knowledge about place value but they don’t know how to round
numbers.

Possible Problems and Misconceptions:


Some students will not pay attention to the lesson.

Some students will have problems with rounding numbers.

Solutions:
The teacher will set for her classroom rules to avoid the misbehaving issue.
The teacher will scaffold the task and move step by step to let students gain the concept.

Engage (warm up, review prior knowledge): time:


The teacher will give learners small quiz about rounding numbers to test and active their 5min
understanding.

Core (introduce and practice new concepts & procedures): 35min

First, the teacher will ask students a questions what are the steps of rounding numbers?
Then, she will put the painting that contain the steps of rounding numbers and she will
discuss each step with the student’s.

After that, the teacher will do some examples in the board and then she will put some flash
cards in the board that has numbers and students should come to the board and round them.
Then, the teacher will let students open their math books and complete page 21 and after
students finish she will discuss the answers in the board.

Then, the teacher will give students worksheet about rounding numbers and each level will
get different work (high, medium, low). After learner’s finish, students will open their books
and answer questions in page 22.

Finally, the teacher will give students small white board and marker and the teacher will say
the number orally and she say the rounding. For instance, 13357 round this number to
nearest hindered. From that students will write in the small board the number and when they
round it.

Close (wrap up, discussion, brief review activity or assessment): 5min


The teacher will do an online game and she will pic students to answer some questions.
