Yet another Buzz Blooper

Right info, wrong photo in Tuesday’s Buzz!!! Pictured above is the real Colten Fast (top) who won the 126 pound title Saturday night under the lights during the 23rd Annual Scotty Wrestling Invitational, beating Sidney’s Everett Jensen by a 6-1 decision. Sorry about that one, Colten! But if anything, our Scotty sophomore has bragging rights; was the only wrestler to bring down an Eagle in the finals. Sidney had 10 out of the 13 weight classes represented in the title matches and won nine of them, Colten being the spoiler. It literally resembled an Eagles dual match against the rest of the competition. Yes, the defending Class A champions are that tough. The Scotties did, however, place 2nd behind this powerhouse team. Once again, sorry Colten! Team results:

Teaching Across Borders!

Stephanie, friend and fellow worker of Shirley Turner, reporting from Zambia

I sat in the lunch hall of the Mbweni School, located in the rural village of Chisopi. In the distance I could see the school’s namesake — Mbweni Mountain. It was Friday morning and the children were having their weekly praise and worship assembly. The air was filled with a hundred tiny voices as they sang praises to God in their local language. I smiled. They finished one song and the children started another one. I stopped smiling. The children started singing to Allah, not Jesus. The teachers got their attention and told them that at this school we sing to Jesus. The children accepted that, and prompted by the teachers, began another song to Jesus. All the children in the village are from the Yao tribe. To be Yao is to be Muslim. It is a constant challenge for the OM teachers teaching here. In the morning the children come to classes at Mbweni school and learn about God. After a quick lunch they run to the Madrassah and learn about Allah. There are practical difficulties like having to teach the students on the floor as they won’t sit on in a seat. (Culturally not appropriate as Allah sits on the throne). Or having to reteach children how to write as they write everything in an Arabic style, right to left. English script, but perfectly backwards. But more than this, these children and their families are living in darkness, controlled by their mixed beliefs of Islam and traditional witchcraft. Both are very strong here. Pray for the team as they are obedient and faithfully plant seeds of God’s word in the lives of these children.

Pound for Pound? Jake’s our Man!

When asking Coach Jory Casterline, “Is Jake the smallest wrestler here?” Coach Casterline quipped, “He’s the smallest wrestler in the history of this tournament!” Wrestling in the 103 pound bracket, Jake Kouka weighs a whisker over 80 pounds; he’s giving up 15-20 pounds in every match he’s in and he’s got a winning record. When his weight finally gets up to snuff, look out! Jake is shown here pinning Sidney’s Christian Lassey.

You know why the number 288 should never be mentioned? Because it’s two gross!

What did the left eye say to the right eye? Between you and me, something smells.

Wuz watching Scoobey Doo this morning. Did you realize, every episode would literally be two minutes long if the gang went to the mask store first and asked a few questions.

Went to the coffee shop with my old pal Marc. When asked for his name by the coffee shop clerk, he answered, “Marc, with a C.” A few minutes later, he was handed his coffee with his name written on the side: Cark.
