Design
Key Issues covered in this unit were:

1. Transformation process design is concerned with creating


the most efficient means of adding value to the
transformed resource.
2. That product characteristics (volume and variety) are
critical factors in determining the process and layout type
with implications for cost and flexibility.
3. That the type and nature of technology used and the
extent to which it can be deployed is determined by
product characteristics.
4. That transformation process design is multi-stage, non-
deterministic, multi-faceted process that impacts directly
on operational performance.
