Using the Tablet PC
This chapter covers the fundamental concepts, basic system operation and use, and system
functions of the Tablet PC. You should familiarise yourself with this information before you attempt
to operate the system.
The casing of your Tablet PC can become very warm during prolonged operation with the power
supply unit. Therefore, touch the device carefully and only in the areas coated with a thermal suede
if possible.

Prior to using your system, be sure to fully charge the battery if you plan to run on battery
i power. Failure to do so may result in erratic performance.

System modes
Before you begin using the Tablet PC, review the different system modes that the system can use.
Being familiar with these system modes will help you determine whether it is appropriate to turn on,
resume, suspend, hibernate or shut down the system when you begin or end a session.
System behaviour for each system mode is described briefly in the following. Each system mode is
listed in decreasing order of power draw.
Your system may be configured to enter some of these modes automatically after a period of
inactivity to conserve battery power.

ON mode
The system is running. The display screen is on.

Idle mode
Some system functions are regulated or turned off to conserve power. The display screen may be
turned off. The system returns to the ON mode when pen activity or other input is detected.

Suspend mode
There are two different Suspend modes: Your system may be configured to use either
i Suspend-to-RAM mode or Hibernate mode.

Suspend-to-RAM mode (S3)

System operation is suspended. All system functions are turned off to conserve power. Power to
memory is on, maintaining data in programs that were running before system operation was
suspended.
The system does not respond to the pen or other input when in Suspend-to-RAM mode. Refer to the
"Resuming operation" section in this chapter for information on returning the system to the ON
mode.

in programs that were running before suspending system operation is stored on the hard disk drive.
The system does not respond to the pen or other input. Refer to the "Resuming operation" section in
this chapter for information on returning the system to the ON mode.

OFF mode
All system functions are turned off to conserve power. The system does not respond to the pen or
other input. The system boots at the next system power-on.

i The system consumes the same amount of power whether it is in Hibernate mode or the
OFF mode.

Powering up the Tablet PC

Follow the procedure below to start the Tablet PC. Before you begin, confirm that the system is in
the OFF mode. To do so, observe the Status display:
• If the power indicator icon is not visible, the system is in OFF mode or in Hibernate mode. It is
safe to perform this procedure.
• If the power indicator is flashing or blinking, do not perform this procedure.
See "System modes" section in this chapter for details on the displayed system modes.
Ê Ensure that the battery in your Tablet PC is sufficiently charged, or connect an external power
source such as the power adapter or auto adapter to your Tablet PC.
Ê Press the On/Resume/Suspend button to start the system.
After performing system initialisation, the system starts the operating system installed on the hard
disk drive. Once the operating system is running, you can use the system.

Shutting down the system

Follow these steps to shut down and turn off your system:
Ê If system operation has been suspended, resume system operation. See the "Resuming
operation" section in this chapter for details.
Ê Save your work and close all running programs.
Ê Choose Shut Down from the Windows Start menu.
Ê Carry out the command.
The system is now in the OFF mode.

Suspending system operation

The Tablet PC allows you to suspend the system operation without closing programs or exiting the
operating system. Use this feature to conserve battery power when a system shutdown is not
practical or when the battery needs to be changed.

If you have set your system to turn Shut down from the Power Options utility in the Control
i Panel, the following procedure will not be possible, since pressing the button shuts the
system down rather than suspending it. To change the power options, go to Start - Control
Panel - Power Options.

To suspend system operation:

Ê Press the On/Resume/Suspend button, or carry out the Standby command from your
operating system or power management program.
If your system is configured to suspend operation using Hibernate mode, a message is displayed
while data is saved to your hard disk.

If you are replacing the battery, wait until system operation is suspended and the power
! indicator is blinking before you remove the battery. Failure to do so could result in loss of
your unsaved data. (Note that if the Resume On LAN function is enabled in the BIOS Setup,
you should not remove the battery unless the system is shut down. When Resume ON
LAN is enabled, the buffer battery is disabled in order to optimise battery life.)
The power indicator either flashes (Suspend-to-RAM) or is not displayed (Hibernate) when
system operation is suspended, depending on how your system is configured. At this
point, programs that were running are stopped, active data is saved, and the system
enters one of two different low-power modes, or suspend modes, as explained in the
following paragraphs

22 - English A26391-K129-Z121-1-7619
Using the Tablet PC

Observe the power indicator in the status display to determine which suspend mode your system is
using.
− Flashing: Suspend-to-RAM-Modus
In this mode, active data is saved by maintaining power to RAM while most other system
components are powered off. The Battery Gauge icon indicates the battery charge level.
− Is not displayed (dark): Hibernate mode
In this mode, active data is stored on the hard disk drive. Power draw is reduced to the
same level used in OFF mode.
When the system is in Hibernate mode, the battery gauge icon is not visible. In this mode,
there is no danger of losing data if battery power is lost.
Refer to the "Resuming operation" section in this chapter to resume system operation. Also, note
the following with regard to suspending system operation:
• You can remove the battery while the system is in Suspend-to-RAM or Hibernate mode in
order to install a charged battery. To prevent losing unsaved data, wait until system operation
has suspended before you remove the battery.
Note that after you remove the battery, you have approximately five minutes to replace it with a
new battery or to plug in a power supply before the buffer battery is depleted.
• Your system may be configured to suspend operation automatically after a period of inactivity.
• Your system may be configured to enter Hibernate mode automatically after a period of time in
Suspend-to-RAM mode.
• The system uses a small amount of battery power when in Suspend-to-RAM mode. Eventually,
the battery will become fully discharged.

If you will not be using the system for an extended period of time, shut down the system
i rather than using Suspend-to-RAM mode.

• If the battery charge drops to a Low Battery warning level while the system is running, the
system will beep periodically. If this occurs, suspend system operation, shut down the system,
or attach an external power source, such as the power adapter, to the Tablet PC.
• If the battery charge drops to a critically low level while the system is running, the system is
forced into a pre-selected mode (Suspend-to-RAM or Hibernate). If this occurs, you must either
install a charged battery, or connect an appropriate external power source such as the power
adapter before you can resume system operation. (If the battery charge drops to a critically low
level while the system is in Suspend-to-RAM mode, the system stays in Suspend-to-RAM
mode until power is restored or totally dissipated.)
• Suspending system operation interrupts data communications. Therefore, some programs may
block the system from suspending to prevent an interruption.

A26391-K129-Z121-1-7619 English - 23
Using the Tablet PC

• The suspend function of the On/Resume/Suspend button may be disabled to prevent

accidental interruption. If this is the case, pressing the On/Resume/Suspend button will not
suspend system operation as described here. (In this case, suspend mode can only be
achieved using the system software.)
Contact your authorised sales partner if your system configuration is not suitable.
• If your system is equipped with a PC card that allows you to connect to a wired or wireless
network, you may be logged off the network after a period of inactivity while system operation
is suspended. Contact your network administrator for details on log-off parameters for your
network.

Resuming operation
To resume system operation (from either Suspend-to-RAM or Hibernate mode), press the
On/Resume/Suspend button.
• From Suspend-to-RAM mode
Status indicators indicate that the system mode is changing. It may take approximately one
minute before the system returns to the ON mode and system operation resumes. Note that
the display turns on shortly before the pen becomes active due to the power-up sequences
observed by the system.
• From Hibernate mode
Active data is read from the hard disk drive. The system returns to the ON mode after a short
time.

Note that power to several system components must be restored before system operation
! resumes. Allow sufficient time for system operation to resume before attempting to use
the system.
If your system uses the Suspend mode "Hibernate", it will take longer to resume operation
as compared to using Suspend-to-RAM mode. Time is needed to read data from the hard
disk drive.

• Use the system as you normally would once system operation resumes.
All programs resume at the point where execution stopped when system operation was suspended.

The STYLISTIC ST41X1 is equipped with a reflective display that reflects incident light,
i enabling you to work even in direct sunlight. That means you can also use this device
outdoors. In addition, with favourable lighting conditions (in rooms and in the open) you do
not need to use the screen lighting.

Using the pen

You can use the pen of the Tablet PC to generate and create electronic "ink", to select items, and to
navigate through programs on the Tablet PC. Programs that support handwriting recognition also
allow you to write characters directly on the screen with the pen. You can also use the pen as a
drawing tool.

Ensure that a screen protector is installed on the display screen before you use the pen.
! The warranty does not cover a scratched screen.
Use only the pen provided with your Tablet PC. Do not use substitutes that were not

The STYLISTIC ST41XX pen is a sophisticated, high-quality electronic instrument that

i can be damaged if used improperly. Treat the pen as you would any precision device.
The following list contains guidelines for proper pen handling:
• Do not gesture with the pen.
• Do not use the pen as a pointer.
• Do not tap the pen on surfaces other than the screen of the Tablet PC.
• Do not try to turn the thumb grip on the pen. The thumb grip is designed for inserting
and removing the pen from the pen garage and for attaching a pen tether.
• Never store the pen with the tip bearing the weight of the pen (e.g., sitting tip down in
a pencil cup). Storing the pen tip down could distort the internal mechanism over a
period of time (especially in higher temperatures), causing the tip to act as if it is
always depressed. To avoid damage, the pen should be stored in the pen garage
when not in use.

The screen reacts when the pen tip is approximately 1/8 inch (3-5mm) from the screen.
With the pen you can run all functions for which you otherwise use a mouse. In addition, you can
very conveniently delete hand-written pen entries using the pen.

Select menu entries (click with the left mouse button)

Ê Touch the menu entry with the pen tip.

Start programs (double-click with the left mouse button)

Ê Briefly touch the program symbol twice consecutively with the pen tip.

Replacing the pen tip

With use, the pen tip may become worn or may pick up foreign particles that can scratch the screen.
A damaged or worn tip may not move freely, causing unpredictable results when using the pen.
If your pen exhibits these problems, you should replace the pen tip. To do so, use the pen tip
removal tool included with your pen.
Pen tips are available as an accessory from your authorised dealer.

Ê To remove the tip; position the tip in the gap between the two ends of the tool.
Ê Pinch the tool together so that the tip is firmly clasped, then pull it from the barrel.
Ê To replace the tip, retrieve one of the new tips that accompanied your pen.
Insert the flat end of the tip into the barrel and push it in firmly until it is seated.

i If the tip is worn or damaged, discard it.

Charging the battery

The Tablet PC battery can be charged while it is installed in the Tablet PC.
To do so:
Ê Connect a power source, such as the power adapter on the Tablet PC.
The DC Input icon appears in the Status display.
If the battery charge is below 90%, the battery begins charging. The Charging icon appears in the
Status display.
If the battery charge is 90% or higher when you connect DC power, the battery will not charge. This
prevents the battery from being overcharged.
Look at the Battery Gauge icon in the Status display to determine the percent of charge in the
battery. See the "Status display" section in the "Getting started" chapter for a description of the
Battery Gauge icon.
As long as the power source remains connected to the Tablet PC, the charging process continues
until the battery charge reaches 100%.
Further information about the battery charging time can be found in chapter "Technical data".
Also note the following with respect to charging the battery:
• You can use the system, suspend system operation, or shut down and turn off the system
without interrupting the charging process. However, using the system while the battery is
charging will cause the battery to charge at a slower rate.

28 - English A26391-K129-Z121-1-7619
Using the Tablet PC

• As noted in the procedure above, the system will not begin charging the battery pack if the
battery pack charge level is 90% or higher when the system is initially connected to external
power source. This prevents the battery from being overcharged.
• The Tablet PC battery uses Lithium ion battery cells which have no "memory effect." You do
not need to discharge the battery before you begin charging.

Removing and installing the battery

The battery can be removed from the Tablet PC and swapped with a charged battery. The
discharged battery can then be charged in an external charger if one is available.
Ê Select one of the following options for prepare for removing the battery:
− If a charged battery is available, you can suspend system operation. A built-in buffer
battery will maintain the system in Suspend-to-RAM mode for about 5 minutes while the
battery is removed. This allows time for replacement with a charged battery.
− If a charged battery is not available, save your work and close all running programs, then
shut down the system or initiate Hibernate mode.
− Plug in an external DC power source.

Removing battery

Ê Slide the battery release latch in the direction indicated.

A26391-K129-Z121-1-7619 English - 29
Using the Tablet PC

Ê Pull the battery away from the system, as shown in the illustration and remove the battery from
the Tablet PC.

i Be sure to dispose of batteries in accordance with local government regulations.

Inserting battery
Ê Orient the battery with the slides in the empty battery tray.
Ê Slide the battery into the tray and press it firmly until it is seated.
When the battery is properly seated, the battery release latch should return to position and lock the
battery.
Once the battery is installed, you can resume system operation or start and use your system
normally.

Tips for conserving battery power

Battery life is dependent upon the operating system, power settings, and applications in use. You
can extend the charge life of your battery by conserving battery power:
• Use an external power source such as the power adapter whenever the system is docked to a
Tablet Dock.
• Suspend system operation if you know that you won’t be using the system for a while.
• Shut down the system if you won’t be using the system for an extended period of time.
• Use energy options of the operating system to help you conserve power.
• If you do not use the Tablet PC for a short time, you can minimise or switch off the screen
lighting on Model ST41X1 to save energy. During work as well, you do not need to use the
screen lighting under favourable lighting conditions (in rooms and in the open).

Buffer battery
When installed in the Tablet PC, the battery provides power to some system components - even
when the system is in the OFF mode. When the battery is removed, power is supplied to these
components by a buffer battery that is built into the Tablet PC.
The buffer battery is not designed for long-term operation. To maintain the buffer battery properly,
observe the following measures:

The buffer battery function is disabled if Wake On LAN is enabled in the BIOS Setup.
i The system arrives with the buffer battery in a discharged state. Charge the buffer battery
sufficiently before relying upon it to support the system in the event of battery removal.

• To prevent draining the buffer battery, always store the system with a charged battery installed.
• If the buffer battery becomes drained, it takes approximately 8 hours for it to be fully recharged.

30 - English A26391-K129-Z121-1-7619
Using the Tablet PC

• The buffer battery charges when the power adapter is connected and the system is in ON or
OFF modes or Suspend mode. The buffer battery charges from the battery only when the
system is in the ON mode.

Modem port
The internal 56 Kbps LAN/modem module installed in the Tablet PC has actual maximum
i transfer rates of 56 Kbps (receive), 33.6 Kbps (send), and 14.4 Kbps (fax). (Download
rates are limited to 53 Kbps in the United States due to FCC restrictions.)

The Tablet PC is designed to accept a standard RJ-11 telephone plug. Connect the telephone plug
to the modem port located on the left-hand side of the Tablet PC (see the "Left side view" section in
the "Getting started" chapter).
The telephone plug can be installed whether or not the Tablet PC has power applied.
Contact your local help desk or reseller if you need assistance using modem or LAN connection.

PC card slot
The PC card slot (PCMCIA) of the Tablet PC allows you to install a Type I or Type II PC card.

Installing a PC card

Ê Insert the PC card, contacts first, into the slot guide. The labelled side of the PC card should be
facing upward.
Ê Slide the PC card carefully into the PC card slot. Press it firmly to ensure proper seating.

! the process.

Removing and installing memory modules

There is one DIMM slot in your Tablet PC and 256 MB on the mainboard. 256 MB and 512 MB
modules are available, so you can install a combination of up to 768 MB in the system.

A DIMM replacement should only be carried out at a suitable workplace. You must
! statically discharge yourself (e.g. by touching a grounded object). The equipment and
tools you use must be free of static charges. Avoid touching connector pins, conductors,
or other circuit components of the Tablet PC. Electrostatic discharge caused by doing so
can damage sensitive components.

Wireless LAN
Your Tablet PC can be upgraded with an integrated wireless LAN module (PRISM Wireless LAN) as
an option. The PRISM Configuration Utility is provided for configuration and status displays of the
network card.
This chapter describes how to install the drivers and the configuration utility and how to make
settings for your wireless LAN.

Wireless network as per IEEE 802.11 standard

The "PRISM Wireless LAN" network card operates in accordance with the IEEE 802.11 standard.
The 2.4 GHz ISM frequency band is used as a communications medium. The wireless networks
operating in accordance with 802.11 can easily be connected to existing Ethernet networks. With
the exception of a few additional parameters, wireless network cards that operate in accordance
with 802.11 are one system with a normal Ethernet card. This means that you can use all protocols
via a 802.11 wireless network just as with a cable-connected Ethernet (IP, IPX, NetBIOS,...). The
only difference is that you need not lay cables between the computers. The number of all wireless
LAN stations that can reach each other directly is generally referred to as a cell. The IEEE standard
offers two operating modes - the adhoc mode (peer-to-peer) and the infrastructure mode.

Adhoc mode
A wireless LAN in the adhoc mode, also called peer-to-peer mode, consists of a single closed cell.
Adhoc wireless networks result when a workgroup comes together with its systems and would like to
interconnect these for data exchange. Any number of systems can be added to this type of network
and can leave it again.
So that several adhoc wireless networks do not interfere with each other in radio traffic, there is a
unique network name, the SSID (Service Set Identifier). The SSID is used for addressing so that a
data packet can always be assigned to a certain cell.
If you want to join an existing cell, you require the network name (SSID), which you enter in the
settings for the network card. The driver searches for a wireless network with this ID during start-up.
When the driver has found a wireless network, it connects to it and you can communicate with the
systems in this wireless network. If two cells are very close together, the channels of these networks
should be 4 to 5 channels apart.

Infrastructure mode
In the infrastructure mode, a base station, referred to as an AccessPoint, exists in addition to the
mobile stations. In the infrastructure mode the AccessPoint assumes the function of a "guard". In
contrast to the adhoc mode, each system must log on to the AccessPoint before it is allowed to
exchange data in the cell.
Another task of the AccessPoint is the connection of the cells with a cable-connected Ethernet. As
due to the logon requirement, the AccessPoint knows at all times exactly which stations are on the
radio side, it can decide exactly which data must be sent to it and which don't. This process is also
referred to as bridging.

A26391-K129-Z121-1-7619 English - 35
Wireless LAN

The range of a wireless network can be increased with several AccessPoints. The AccessPoints
have the same SSID for this purpose. When a system enters the wireless net, it searches among
the reachable AccessPoints for the one with the strongest signal and logs on there. Two systems
logged on to different AccessPoints communicate with each other in this way, even when they are
not within direct radio reach. If a system also continuously monitors the radio situation after the
logon, it can detect how the signals from an AccessPoint become weaker and those of another
become stronger, and can then log on to the stronger one without the user noticing. This procedure
is referred to as roaming.

Configuration utility
There are two methods of calling the configuration utility:
• by double-clicking on the wireless LAN radio icon in the toolbar
• with Start - Programs - PRISM Wireless LAN Configuration.
The configuration utility consists of the four tabs Status, Configuration, Encryption and About. The
possible settings are described in the following.

As in Windows XP and Windows XP Tablet PC Edition the configuration of a wireless

i LAN is integrated in the operating system, only the tabs Status and About of the
configuration utility are available under Windows XP. All other settings for a wireless LAN
are made directly in the operating system.
If you deactivate the network functions in Windows XP, you can configure your wireless

Wireless LAN

Meaning of entries and buttons

Profile Name A profile is a collection of parameters for the network card. If you select
an existing profile, all parameters are set as defined in the profile. Click
on the arrow next to the Profile Name field to display the available profiles.
The Default profile is provided as a standard and contains the parameters
that were configured during the installation. You can change the profile at
any time after the installation.
You can create an additional profile by entering the name in the Profile
Name field and then changing the parameters as desired. If you want to
subscribe to different wireless networks, you can create different profiles
for them.
Network Name The network name is the SSID (Service Set Identifier) used by the
AccessPoint and systems to identify a wireless LAN. Your network card
searches the available channels for a partner (AccessPoint or system)
with the same SSID. The network card then attempts to connect to this
AccessPoint or system. To change an SSID, mark the SSID and enter a
new SSID. If you system cannot establish a connection to an
AccessPoint in the vicinity, check whether the SSID is entered correctly.
If you use the entry ANY, then your system connects to any AccessPoint.
The AccessPoint must then be configured so that it permits any
subscriber (no access restrictions).
Network Type The network card can operate either in the adhoc mode (802.11 Adhoc) or
in the infrastructure mode (Infrastructure). Click on the arrow next to the
Network Type field and select the mode.
AdHoc Channel Specifies the channel in the adhoc mode. Click on the arrow next to the
field Adhoc Channel until the channel appears. In the infrastructure mode
this field cannot be selected, as the channels are automatically specified
by the AccessPoint.
Power Save Enabled The IEEE standard 802.11 supports a power save mode. Activating this
mode can same a great deal of power and is of interest for battery-
operated systems. However, the power save mode also results in a lower
transmission and reception speed on the wireless LAN.
Transmit Rate Specifies the transmission rate with which the network card transmits and
receives data. Click on the arrow next to the Transmit Rate field to see the
possible transmission rates.
We only recommend setting Fully Automatic. The network card selects the
highest possible transmission rate for reliable communications. The fixed
transmission rates are usually only used in test environments.

Care and maintenance
This chapter gives you pointers on how to care for and maintain your Tablet PC.

Protecting the display screen

The Tablet PC is designed to provide you with years of service. Using a screen protector will help
ensure that the screen remains as clear as possible. When installed, the screen protector becomes
a durable, replaceable writing surface that protects the display screen from abrasion.
Please contact your dealer for additional screen protectors.

During normal use of the Tablet PC, small particles from the environment can become
! embedded in the pen tip and scratch the screen. To prevent scratching the screen, ensure
that a screen protector is installed before using your Tablet PC. The warranty does not
cover a scratched screen.

To install a new screen protector on your Tablet PC:

Ê If a screen protector is already installed on the display screen, remove it before installing the
new screen protector.
The screen protector is held onto the display screen surface by a thin strip of adhesive around
the edges. There is a angled corner in one corner of the screen protector. It allows you to slide
your fingernail under the screen protector for easy removal.
Ê Clean the display by wiping the screen surface gently using a soft cotton cloth dampened with
isopropyl alcohol. Ensure that all residue has been removed from the screen before applying a
new screen protector.

The Tablet PC is not waterproof. Do not pour liquids on the system or wash it with a
! heavily soaked cloth.
Do not place items on the top of the display, or damage may occur.

A26391-K129-Z121-1-7619 English - 45
Care and maintenance

Ê Remove the protective coating from the adhesive side of the screen protector.

Ê Align the screen protector on the edges of the screen and lay it on the screen surface with the
adhesive side downward (see illustration).
Ê Apply pressure to the screen protector with your finger. When doing so, carry out wiping
movements outward toward the edges to prevent air bubbles and then firmly press on the
edges.
To ensure a good seal between the screen protector and the display, do not lift the screen protector
from the display once it has been applied.

46 - English A26391-K129-Z121-1-7619
Care and maintenance

A plastic protective coating is provided on the screen protector that must be pulled off before
touching the screen with the pen.

Ê Carefully lift off the protective plastic coating at the angled corner. Now you can carefully pull
off the protective coating (see illustration).
The screen protector is now transparent.
Ê Wipe the screen protector with a soft dry cloth to remove any low-tack adhesive.
This will help prevent the pen tip from squeaking.
The screen protector is now installed.

i The adhesive sets completely within 48 hours.

Care and maintenance

Storing the Tablet PC

Store the Tablet PC in the OFF mode. Be sure, that the installed battery is fully charged. You can
store the Tablet PC in the OFF mode for about 30 days with a fully charged battery installed. After
this period, the battery should be recharged or replaced with a charged battery.
If you intend to store the Tablet PC for a longer period of time, the small battery that maintains
system time may need to be replaced. Replacement of the battery should only be performed by
authorised technicians.

Avoiding overheating
The Tablet PC monitors its internal temperature. As the internal temperature approaches the
tolerable limits of heat-sensitive components, system functions are automatically limited or turned
off to prevent damage.
To avoid overheating the Tablet PC, do not obstruct the ventilation slots of the device.

Troubleshooting
In the following sections possible solutions to problems that may occur are described. If you are
experiencing a problem with your Tablet PC that you cannot solve by taking the actions described,
contact your sales partner or hotline/help desk for further assistance.

System will not resume operation

If the system will not resume operation after system operation has been suspended, check the
following possible causes:
• The battery may either be defective, or discharged to the critically low level. When the battery
reaches the critically low level, the system is forced into Suspend-to-RAM mode to avoid a total
system power failure. To correct this problem, either connect an external power supply (such
as the power adapter), or install a charged battery in the Tablet PC.
• The system may be at the critical thermal limit. System operation cannot be resumed until the
device cools off to the permissible temperature. Move the Tablet PC to a cooler location.

pen, calibrate the pen.
To calibrate, please run the Tablet and Pen Settings function in the Control Panel.

Infrared data transfer is not working

If you are experiencing problems transferring data over the infrared receiver of the device, note the
following:
• Can the infrared receiver on the Tablet PC "see" the infrared interface on the other device? A
direct line-of-sight path must exist between the infrared receiver on the Tablet PC and the
infrared interface on the other device.
• The distance between the two devices must not be more than approximately 3 feet.
• The viewing angle from the infrared receiver on the Tablet PC must not be more than 15
degrees from a centre line between the infrared receiver on the Tablet PC and the infrared
interface on the other device.
• The device with which you are trying to communicate must be compliant with the IrDA
Standard Revision 1.1 (or 1.0).
• It may be necessary for both computers to be using the same network connection protocols.

Device is not responding to the pen

If your Tablet PC does not respond to the pen, connect an external keyboard to the system to see if
it responds to keyboard commands.
• If the system doesn't respond to a keyboard, the application or system may have crashed. It
may be necessary to reboot the system.
• If the system responds to a keyboard but not to a pen, contact your sales partner or
hotline/help desk.
