Name: Fatema saeed Grade Level: Grade 3

CCSS Standards: SHAPE AND SPACE. Different between 2D shape and 3D shape.

Main Lesson Aims (Concepts, Procedures, & Processes):

The student will be able to identify 2D and 3D around school.

Main Lesson Aims (Concepts, Procedures, & Processes):

 The students will be able to review faces, Edges and vertices of 3D shapes which are

cylinder , cube, rectangular prism, sphere, Square pyramid, cone and triangular

prism.

 The students will be able to find objects as shaped 2D which are a circle , Triangle

,square , and rectangle and oval and 3D shapes which are cylinder , cube,

rectangular prism, sphere, Square pyramid, cone and triangular prism around school .

 The students will be able to share their information about what they found of objects

around school with their classmates.

 Targeted teacher language: faces, Edges and vertices,3D shapes ,2 D shapes, cylinder ,
Students’ Prior Knowledge:
cube,
Students rectangular
know prism, sphere, Square pyramid, cone and triangular prism.
2D shapes.
Students know faces, Edges and vertices of 3D shapes which are cylinder , cube,
Student language: Examples of 3D or 2D shapes around school for example, ball, bin …etc.
rectangular prism, sphere, Square pyramid, cone and triangular prism.
.
Engage (warm up, review prior knowledge): time:
Possible Problems and Misconceptions:
 After greeting, I will tell them we are going play game about what shape
- Some students might not try to find objects around school.
am I?
 I will display them 3D shapes which are cylinder , cube, rectangular
Solutions: 10 min
- prism, sphere, Square
I will encourage them topyramid,
engage . cone and triangular prism on the table.
 I will tell them a description about one of 3D shape to get what shape i
mean.
For example, I have no vertices. I have no faces. I have 1 curved surface. What
shape am I?
• After get answer, I will check their answer together by counting faces,
vertices and edges of shape.
 I will repeat same pervious steps with other shapes.
Core (introduce and practice new concepts & procedures):

 I will make 7 groups of 3 in mix ability.

 I will tell them you have to find objects at the same 2D shape or 3D shape
around school.
 I will provide worksheet for each group.
 I will tell them you have to write down the object which they found it and
what the name of the shape, then, determine if its 2D or 3D.
 We will go and walk around school.

20 min

Close (wrap up, discussion, brief review activity or assessment): 10 min

 We will come back to classroom and share their ideas together.
