COURSE TITLE: Fundamentals of Accounting Part 2- Partnership and Corporate Accounting


II. COURSE REQUISITE: Fundamentals of Accounting Part 1

III. CREDIT UNITS: Three (3)

IV. COURSE DESCRIPTION: This is a continuation of the first course in Accounting initially it will a review of the accounting process and principles
in order to reinforce knowledge competence and skills. The main part covers transactions, accounting problems and financial statements
peculiar to the partnership and corporate form of business using the merchandising business as framework. It will include the preparation of
simple statement of changes in partnership capital and statement of changes in retained earnings. The voucher system is also introduced in
this course. The course exposes the students to computerized accounting system for simple merchandizing business.

V. COURSE OBJECTIVES : At the end of the course, the students are expected to
1. Have knowledge on the nature of partnership and corporations, how they are organized and their advantages and disadvantages as forms
of business org.
2. Be able to use correctly the technical terms associated with accounting for partnership, corporation and manufacturing concerns.
3. Understand and be able to account for the formation of a partnership, the distribution of net income or loss, the admission of a new partners
and the dissolution or liquidation of a partnership in accordance with the legal requirements and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
4. Understand and be able to account for typical corporate transactions including authorization, sale and subscriptions of stock, treasury stock,
dividends and retained earnings, in accordance with legal requirements and generally accepted accounting principles.

VI. COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES:


1. Resolve ethical issues and problems related to the preparation of financial statements for partnership and corporation entities thereby
responding to God’s call of becoming responsible financial stewards;
2. Analyze and record financial transactions related to the formation, operation, dissolution and liquidation of a partnership entity guided
by the values of honesty, objectivity, mutual trust and concern;
3. Analyze and record financial transactions related to the formation, operation and liquidation of a corporation guided by the Ignacian
Marian values of honesty, integrity, and accountability;
4. Perform the necessary steps in the preparation of financial statements of the partnership and corporate forms of business with a high
sense of integrity and accountability;
5. Use a computerized general ledger accounting package, electronic spreadsheets, and the internet as tools for preparing and analyzing
accounting information.
