EUROPEAN CERTIFICATIONS & HVAC CONNECTED FUME

CUPBOARDS
HVAC to review

1.0 EUROPEAN CERTIFICATIONS

Below you can find the full set of European Certifications applicable to Laboratories.

As you can see, all of these are also ISO (apart from EN), so they are valid worldwide.

1. EN ISO 14175:2012 for Fume Cupboards

2. EN ISO 13150:2001 for Laboratory Benches
3. EN ISO 14727:2006 for Laboratory Casework
4. EN ISO 14470:2004 for Flammables Storage Cabinets
5. EN ISO 14056:2004 for Laboratory Design and Installation

Our manufacturer(s) hold all the above Certificates, and all of them are issued by Internationally
recognized Third-Party-Authorities.

2.0 HVAC-CONNECTED FUME CUPBOARDS

As I mentioned, when the design of the lab is still in the early stage, and the HVAC still has not been
designed/proportioned, it is suggestible to foresee a "Communication Protocol" between the fume
cupboards and the HVAC itself.

This is because fume cupboards pull considerable amounts of air out of the lab, and this has a big
impact on the HVAC design in terms of:

1. Energy consumption
2. Pressure balance of rooms

Based on that, it is possible to create a communication protocol between fume cupboards and HVAC
Control board, so that these entities "communicate with each other" and the airflows are optimized.

The specific communication protocol must be agreed, as it might differ according to the specific
application.

Below you can find a small schematics for a "standard" protocol:
