Obesity Epidemic in Generation Z

One of every five children that is between the age of 6 to 19 has obesity and it shows no

signs of stopping. For the past decade there has been a spike of obesity at young ages and this

can cause health problems further down in life. Some of the health problems that can occur when

older are heart disease, diabetes, and high blood pressure. When it comes to the reasons why

obesity is on the rise there are many of them. It could be due to genetics, bad diet, or not

exercising but all of that can be solved or improved by people just improving their lifestyle.

Obesity has gone to epidemic levels and it now the worst its been since humans have

been on earth. In a article by CDCP (Centers of disease control and prevention) it states “ Data

from 2015-2016 show that nearly 1 in 5 school age children and young people (6 to 19 years) in

the United States has obesity.” This quote proves my claim by it showing that it has gone to

epidemic levels and is shown to rise as the years go on. In another article by NBC news it says

“26 percent of 2 to 5-year-olds were overweight and more than 15 percent were obese.” This

quote really shows the problem because it shows that toddlers has young as 2 are getting obesity

and not just a few toddlers it is a quarter of them. Overall the rise of obesity has gone to

epidemic levels and shows no sign of stopping in the up and coming years.

As there are a lot of problems for obesity there are also lots of solutions for it. Some

included these fat free food or there merical drinks that cure it, most of these come from

commercials on T.V. The most effective way to lose weight or to be healthier is to improve

people’s overall lifestyle. In the Article by VMC (Virtual Medical Centre) it states “Lifestyle

treatments for weight loss focus on reducing energy intake and increasing physical activity

through diet, exercise and behavioural measures.” Those treatments that are in the quote are very

effective in the long term and shows that it works. In another article “Obesity Prevention Source”

by Harvard T.H. Chan “Calories matter for weight-and some foods make it easier for us to keep

our calories in check. Healthy eating is a key to good health as well as maintaining a healthy

weight” this solution is not easy but it’s shown to be effective and it take a lot of willpower to do

a lot of these things.

This is the most realistic solution there is because there isn’t a magic potion that makes

people healthy, the people have have to work for it and not just eat junk food and not exercise.

In the article “Prevention of Overweight and Obesity: How Effective is the Current Public Health

Approach” the data says that “there will be about 2.3 billion overweight people aged 15 years

and above”. The data in the article is very helpful when determining overweight people around

the world and how it will look in the future. In the article “Lifestyle Changes for Obesity and

Weight Loss” it talks about the dietary ways to improve your life. This Article helps people

understand what food is bad for health and what food that will improve health. Overall Changing

or improving the lifestyle of many people can help battle obesity and stop the epidemic.

There many problems with our health that cause obesity for example genetics, bad diet or

not being active. There is way to counteract these factors and that just improving people's overall

lifestyle.Obesity is a growing epidemic and its not an easy thing to stop but there are ways to

stop it from spreading it to more people. By just improving the lifestyle can solve many

problems with health.
