Today many Malaysian teenagers are involved in various vices which
include drug abuse, vandalism and bullying. The mist common social ill at school level is truancy. Truancy is the act of bunking classes without any valid reason to spend time elsewhere in past time places such as cyber cafes or shopping malls. Surveys carried out by relevant authorities show that truancy is the result of lack of interest during classes. These truants prefer to have a gala time outside the school then face a strict teacher who demands discipline and diligence. We have to blame the monotonous teaching and learning process in Malaysian schools as students do not find the lessons interesting nor challenging. Apart from that, playing truant could be one way a child gets attention of his/her parents who do not spend enough time with their children. Teenagers need love and attention and they like to be in crowd and conform to the current trends their peers are into. Truancy is a serious problem that needs immediate action by the family unit, school authorities and the government.
