Purpose of this documentation
This document describes the PSU8600 TIA Portal Block Library. The block library provides
tested code with clearly defined interfaces. You can use it as the basis for the task you wish
to realize.
The main focus of this document is to describe:
● All blocks pertaining to the block library
● The functionality implemented through these blocks.
The documentation furthermore illustrates the possible applications of the library, and step-
by-step instructions to help you integrate the library into your SIMATIC STEP 7 project.
Note
In this document, the function blocks for S7-1200/1500 are described. Any deviations in the
function blocks for S7-300/400 will be pointed out where applicable.
Note
Difference between TIA V14 SP1 and TIA V15
In this document, working with function blocks in TIA V14 SP1 and TIA V15 is described
keeping TIA V15 Portal as reference. To work with TIA V14 SP1 you need to import library
package "PSU8600_Library_V14_SP1_V2-4" block library and to work with TIA V15 you
need to open library package "PSU8600_Library_V15_V2-4" block library.

Note
All the addresses in decimal values should be converted into hexa decimal format when
they are assigned to FB.
Note
Requirements for reading cyclic data
If the addresses of the configured modules are outside the process image address range,
then the function block cyclic data parameters will be assigned to "zero" values.
In order to avoid this problem, you can:
1. Increase the process image input size or change the addresses of the modules to
keep the address in process image range.
2. Use peripheral addressing. For this you need to add ":P" in the function blocks where
"%IW" instructions are there.
Preferably, it is recommended to use first solution, because process image has following
advantages:
• This is part of CPU system memory and updated periodically by CPU.
• Advantages of the process image access compared to direct access to the
input/output modules, offers the advantage that a consistent image of process signals
is made available to the CPU during cyclic program processing. If the signal state at
an input module changes during program execution, the signal status in the process
image is maintained until the process image is updated in the next cycle. Moreover,
since the process image is stored in the CPU's system memory, access to the process
image is significantly faster than direct access to the signal modules.
• Process image comparatively takes less time to access. For example, CPU 317-2 DP
takes 0.05 μs with process image and 15.01 μs with peripheral addressing.
• Bit addressing is possible.
For more details, Please refer below links:
you-need-peripheral-addressing-?dti=0&lc=en-WW
• https://support.industry.siemens.com/tf/WW/en/posts/increasing-pip-piq-vs-peripheral-
addressing/62626?page=0&pageSize=10
4. Function blocks and input parameters are slightly different for 1200/1500 and 300/400
PLCs. Cyclic Input and output addresses are represented by single hardware identifier in
1200/1500 PLCs, whereas cyclic input and output addresses are different for 300/400
PLCs. For any input parameter with Cyclic_IO_IN_<submodule>_address
(Cyclic_IO_IN_HeadModule_address), cyclic input address needs to be given as the input.
For any output parameter with Cyclic_IO_OUT_<submodule>_address
(Cyclic_IO_OUT_Output1_address), cyclic output address needs to be given as the ssinput.

WinCC Faceplates 6
6.1 Introduction
Variants
The library contains two basic variants of the function blocks for faceplates:
● Comfort Panels and WinCC Runtime Advanced
● WinCC Runtime Professional
In addition to faceplates, UDTs for data connection of faceplates and SIMATIC STEP 7
blocks are also contained.
UDTs are different for the controller types:
● S7-1200
● S7-1500
● S7-300
● S7-400
Note
The WinCC UDTs are principally identical. However, when creating an HMI UDT, the
destination controller must be specified, which makes it subject to the controller types.
Navigation
Faceplates offer various views, these views can be switched through a two-layer navigation.
Primary navigation to individual information types is located at the top of the screen.
Secondary navigation towards individual SITOP PSU8600 modules is located on the left
hand side of the faceplate.

Note
The function blocks work properly with both, English and German mnemonics. In case the
source code of the function blocks is required for a project, consider the following
constraints:
• In case the language setting of your project is English, then the source code of the
function blocks can be used as it is.
• In case the language setting of your project is German, then the entries IB (Input Byte)
and IW (Input Word) of the sources have to be replaced with EB (EingangsByte)
Note
You can now use the blocks you need. However, there are some dependencies.
• Function blocks SITOP_PSU8600 or SITOP_PSU8600_S depending on the type must
always be available and called.
• If SITOP outputs of an expansion module shall be processed with the
"SITOP_PSU8600_Output" block, then block "SITOP_CNX8600 / SITOP_CNX8600_8X"
must also exist for the respective module and be called.

Note
If your communication blocks are called cyclically (example. in OB1), results in a slow
behavior of the web server integrated in SITOP PSU8600 due to high communication load.
If there aren’t any high demands regarding accurate time behavior, you can also call the
communication blocks in a time-controlled block (example. OB35).
