29. State Bohr’s postulates. Using the postulates derive an expression for the total energy of an
electron in nth orbit of an atom. What is the negative value of this signifies?

Derive Einstein’s photo electric equation. Draw a graph to show in the variation of stopping potential
with frequency of radiations incident on a metal plate. How can the value of Planck constant be
determined from this graph?
30 . By using Bohr’s postulates of atomic model derive mathematical expressions for (i) kinetic energy
and (ii) potential energy, of an electron revolving in an orbit of radius ‘r’. How does the potential
energy change with increase in the principal quantum number ‘n’ for the electron and why?.

Explain Rutherford’s experiment on the scattering of alpha particles and state the significance of the
result. Hence derive the formula for distance of closest approach.
