• Pump or pressurized water source
• Water filter(s) or filtration systems: sand separator, Fertigation systems (Venturi
injector) and chemigation equipment (optional)
• Backwash controller (Backflow prevention device)
• Pressure Control Valve (pressure regulator)
• Distribution lines (main larger diameter pipe, maybe secondary smaller, pipe fittings)
• Hand-operated, electronic, or hydraulic control valves and safety valves
• Smaller diameter polyethylene tube (often called "laterals")
• Poly fittings and accessories (to make connections)

 What is the cost of drip irrigation for 1 acre?

Drip irrigation system cost per acre

For fruits crop, if they are planted in the 3X3 pattern cost per acre for
drip irrigation system come around 35,000- 40,000 approximately.

If you are used non-ISI drip irrigation material, your starting cost for
one acre is 20,000-25,000 rupee for the vegetable crop.
But the life of non-ISI material for 2-3 years with high maintenance cost
. while the life of ISI material is 7-10 years with low maintenance.

 How much water does it take to irrigate 1 acre?

Irrigation type: There’re various irrigation types, namely:

Flood irrigation: this uses the most water. Generally for crops like paddy, sugarcane, maize, wheat,
etc. cheapest but very less efficient

Sprinkler/Rain Gun’s: this uses only 30–50% of water used in flood irrigation. This is the best
alternative for crops like paddy, sugarcane, maize etc. this is needs some investment but very
effective

Drip irrigation: This uses only 10–20% of water compare for flood irrigation. This basically
supplies the amount of water required for the plant very effectively. This is best suitable for trees
and shrubs but it’s not s major success for paddy, sugarcane, maize etc. this has a lot of investments
but very efficient

Other alternative methods: There’re other alternative and creative methods like, wick irrigation,
bottle irrigation, green house effect irrigation, mist/spray irrigation etc and water conversation
methods like Hydroponics, aquaponics, Polyhouse etc. which uses very less water.

U can plant 1200 banana plants in one acre with 1.8 X1.8 mt
spacing require the following. Lateral 2000mt @8.35.2000
drippers @2.95.One filter costing Rs2000/-, Main line63 mm
dia @64/mt.Sub main50mm dia @60.40/mt.One valve cost
Rs4000/-, other fittingsRs3000/-.Length of main & sub main
depend on field length & width. This dripper discharge 4 lit
per second no 1.5 HP pump is needed.

Approximate cost of drip irrigation system for an acre of

banana crop would work to around Rs50,000.There are
scores of drip manufacturers supplying the system in
the country.In case you need subsidy,you may consult the
district horticulture officer/Director,Horticulture and follow
the subsidy route as directed by them.
